Hey guys..... I've wanted a caprice for the longest time and I think my time has come.... after the most recent trip to the dealer to have repairs on my ZR2 Blazer, I've decided I'm going to try to trade it in for a caprice at the dealer ship..... can you guys tell me what your opinion on this is.

I know it's the 4.3, but to be honest, I'm not really looking for something to be fast, just something with a little umph. also, I read that the BL in the 4th and 5th characters on the VIN means it's the police package, is that true? If so that means it has a beefed up suspension right? here's a pic

How many miles does it have? I found my 95
Caprice 9C1 with the LT1 for $4000 it has 94496 miles on it but it runs great plus with the LT1 you have all the power and speed you want. the only difference mine is to that one is that the other one has alloys. If i were you i would shop around for a while first. It took me a while to find mine but when i did it was all worth it.

It is NOT a police package, and has the 4.3. It is a good factory color (inside and out), but it is still overpriced in my opinion. It depends on what else is available in your area. If this is a trade-in at a dealership, they didn't pay more than $2200-2500, so I would work 'em hard to bring that down to about 5 grand. I've worked in dealerships for years, so that *ahem* should be reliable info. Here's some more info:

I bought a 1994 Caprice, two years ago this month. It had 62,xxx miles. It has the LT1 all the power goodies except passenger seat. I paid $6,200. Last summer my wife got a real clean 1996 4.3 Caprice loaded, 65,xxx miles and I think we paid $6,500. Deals are out there, you just have to look.....

I'll second that, you can get an lt1 car much cheaper if you're willing to wait and you jump on a deal when it comes up. I just got my 95 lt1 9c1 a couple weeks go for $2000. Its got 140k miles and needed a little body work but its mechanically solid.

for 8k not even with an LT1?

Walk away from it. Wait and get at 75K mile lt1 for that price....

You may want it now and say it has good power, but you will need more for this big car in a hurry..

pass on it. IMO

There's a white civi 96 near me with like 56k miles and an LT1 for $7995. Pretty well loaded, no leather but everything else. Just thought i'd add this cuz this is the 2nd or 3rd post i've read about people not finding LT1 cars in their area. I feel this may be one of the last production ones cuz the vin is after mine (doesn't really mean anything) and it's white with burgundy interior which, to me, isn't the greatest combo. Weren't the last ones all white so they could put any interior in?

Mine is for sale.
Dark Green Grey Metalic 96 Caprice Classic LT1, fully loaded with every available factory option. Added SS 3.08 rear w/disk brake, SS body trim, and Trunk Spolier. Also the Blazer overhead with temp/compass. All that is needed to complete the SS clone look for the outside is a set of SS wheels/tires and SS springs. It just went over 100k during a trip from IL to NC.
I'm looking for around $7,500. I just looked in the Nassio Classified, and theres a 96 Caprice LT1/SS clone with 185K miles and he's asking $10,000. Also saw a 92 Caprice for $6,000. So I don't think I'm asking to much.

I have the 4.3 liter. I paid that 3 years ago for pretty much the same car.

I think 4500 to 5000 is an okay price.
But if you have that much to spend get a civi LT1 caprice.

I just got a 1995 4.3L caprice with 137xxx miles for $1200. I'm doing about $500 in parts to get it to start, but still...good deals are out there. Last month I found a 1991 Buick Roadmaster Estate wagon for $1400 and drove it away, needed nothing. I hope I don't find any more good deals for a while ;)

Well that one is definately out of the question now, not just because of the price, but the dealer...... That is where I bought my current vehicle... a 1998 ZR2 Blazer. It just recently went in for a warrenty repair, the spider gear broke into pieces. Well a week later, they finally get the rear end re-assembled and take it out for a test drive the transmission started sliping. This will be the 2nd repair the the trannie in less than 6 months. I now don't feel comfortable buying any vehicle from them. So the hunt is on.....
