"I can tell from the responses I've seen on this thread that many folks really don't have any idea what is involved "

Gee, I wonder why? Could it be that ISSCA discloses virtually NOTHING? That is part of the reason there are only one, or no reps from many regions. There is very little information of policies and procedures on how to volunteer in this capacity. I know more about what it takes to run for president of this country, than has ever been put forward by ISSCA on how to become a BOD member. Maybe it's in some dark corner of the ISSCA website, but I've never seen it. Once ISSCA posts more information for the members, it may become more supported by the members. For example, check out this thread:

http://impalassforum.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=30;t=000128;p=1#000018

ISSCA finally got a clue, and ASKED for input from the members. 10 days later, Rick "Highway SS" posted this on another thread:

"...thanks to a lot of great contributions and interest by the members the Impala SScene will be back on track for 2005, in fact the 2004 periodicals are being produced as well ..."

ISSCA asked the members, and the members stepped up. Go figure.

discloses virtually NOTHING?
Not exactly. Every region is asked to submit names of members in their area as candidates for the BoD. The By-Laws are public record. They try to make the minutes public knowledge also. It's not always easy finding the time to get everything done on time. Maybe if more folks would volunteer, it would be different.

Oh yes, I forgot, everyone else has a life and doesn't have time to volunteer. Funny, they always find time to bitch!

Before anyone goes off on the BoD, I'm not a present member of the BoD, just an ISSCA Member.

Another thing, the BoD isn't the US Gov, Senate, Congress or the military. They are a group of dedicated volunteers that are trying to do the right thing by the membership.

If anyone ever has a question about anything, there is a page full of contacts you may ask, posted on the ISSCA web site.

I sometimes wonder why I even try to explain.

Yes, discloses virtually nothing. ISSCA's poor communication with the members has been the biggest problem here.

"They try to make the minutes public knowledge also. "

Yeah, the minutes that were on the ISSCA site before this little side show were from January.

"Every region is asked to submit names of members in their area as candidates for the BoD."

I don't know what your definition of "region" is, but I thought I lived on one of them. Neither I, nor anyone I know that is a current member of ISSCA in my area have ever been asked to submit any names. Also, contrary to your beliefs, people will likely step up and volunteer if they are made aware there is a need in ISSCA. My previous post proves that.

"I sometimes wonder why I even try to explain."

That makes 2 of us.

Bitching takes very little time and money to do. :D

But you would think, that due to the number of "bitchers" here, that something is wrong?

We have a belief in the Air Force that if something is percieved to be wrong, then it most likely is. Kinda sucks sometimes, but it is what is best for the whole.

Yyyep. I'm not sure who are members, or not, but questioning the club's actions, or lack of, before this thread came to life, was a guaranteed flaming. For whatever reason, people would be fearful of making a statement that they may have to be accountable for, due to being labeled as someone who is negative, or just likes to bitch. In the past, if you voiced a concern regarding ISSCA, no matter how constuctive, a portion of the population would jump all over you. This philosophy is stupid because after a while, a for/by the member club is doing stuff a portion of the members aren't in favor of. Worse yet, the BoD is oblivious to it, because they are getting little or no feedback. Before long, a situation like this comes along, and it is "the last straw" for many. Unfortunately, the masses never spoke up before, so a lot of this "bitching" catches everyone by suprise. It took something like this for people not to care about the dreaded flames, and speak their mind for a change, when they should have been voicing their concerns, good or bad, regarding ISSCA the whole time.

Because the expense of being a member of the board was a factor, a board member offered a proposal to the board during regular business that billeting expenses be covered by the club. The proposal was modified, voted on and approved. One night of lodging is now covered for a board member to attend. Maybe this will add some incentive for club members to look into becoming more active in the ISSCA.

It's a shame that one board member got hammered for covering the expenses of another board member in order for that member to attend a face to face meeting. Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

Impala SScene - what makes this magazine so good is from input/articles/photos provided by the members. All mouth and no action does not make for a regular magazine. The editor is also a volunteer with a real life too, and stuff happens.

Another BoD member offered a proposal for an ISSCA lapel pin, which was voted on and approved. They should be available shortly. This member has wanted a lapel/hat pin since day one. Oh, the right side logo decal also gets a golf clap.

Well put Ray; concur.

Ya know what they say about assuming...

Actually I have been involved with a variety of non profit organizations. (Alot of them being sports related but still) In those cases those clubs were "owned" by someone who wanted to make it non profit for tax purposes but still...
