I have owned the car for 22 years....but can't remember if the turn signal/wiper/high beam lever works as a "high beam momentary flash" mode or just click on for high beam

I ask because mine does not "flash" high beam, just on or off

TIA

No, that is normal operation for the Imapla.

There is a "flash to pass" mod that can be done to do exactly what your asking. I'll see if I can find the link for you that tells how you can add this mod.

Yep - found it in the "impala Technical Archives" about 1/3 of the way down....

and this thread old here talks about this mod....

I considered doing it myself but just look at this mod as a "snobby thing" to do to other drivers. If I want them to move over, I just get right on their Rear Bumper...I'm kidding of course. :>)

Thanks 4door.

My only concern was if there was a "flash" mode not working than something was failing in my switch

Funny how you can own something for 22 years and not remember if it has or does something

Coming home last night from a cruise night I wanted to flash the car in front of me for driving under the speed limit while all lanes to the right were passing me/him is when I noticed I had no "flash" function.

As is typical that driver seemed clueless to his surroundings so I just passed him on the right

....and could see the cell phone glow on his face as I passed...

One thing I noticed when I drove the SS home new was people in front of me pulled over. I felt this was due to the car profile and color (when viewed from one's rear view mirror) looked like a cop car since all cop cars were B bodys then. I always enjoyed this "feature"...now though that has faded as most cops drive SUV or some clown vics out here

The 383 makes passing effortless though :)

I hate....let me repeat HATE!!!, when people block up the Left Lane. They call it a passing lane for a reason. For some reason, the state of Virginia seems to teach this practice to their drivers. Every year we head to N.C. for vacation and that State always seems to get bottlenecked due to this practice. you just cant pass anyone cause they got the left lanes all blocked up. Being on their cell phone is another annoying and very un safe thing to do.

Back when my Black Caprice was all stock and still sporting the Chrome grill you also had a LOT of Police and State Troopers driving a 91 - 96 Caprice. Many times, I can remember coming up on a car in the left lane. You'd see them glance up at their Rear View and then the turn signal would come on and they would slooooowly move over to the right. Man I miss those days.

That feature was reserved for the Cadillac Fleetwood.
Might find the parts on a junker. Relay and some wiring bits if I recall properly.
While your at it, pull the turn signal stalk. Caddie one was nicer than the B bodies.
NAISSO had a kit many moons ago. That's what I bought.
Cheers.

I put it on my 91 OCC. Changed the switch, and added one contact, and a power wire. You want it to turn on when you have the lights off, or when low beams are on. Use the high beams for flash to pass.

Only the FW had FTP, and not all of them had it.

BTW, the FW column is about 1/2 inch longer than the B-body column, and if you put one in your B-body, you may incur some slop in the intermediate shaft, because the inner D tube does not pull out as far to get tight.
