I found a 96 Fleetwood in the junkyard with the map light mirror and of course took it. I note that this 94 FWB I'm working on doesn't seem to have any wiring to directly support the map lights. We're also considering running power to the top of the windshield for hardwire installation of a dash cam and Valentine One. I noticed that the front of the headliner seems to be quite significantly molded and stiff. What is the best way to lower the front of the headliner without damage so wires can be run up to the top of the windshield area for accessories? Thanks.

Having replaced the HL on my Caprice and also adding Lighted Visors and Autodim Mirror, I have a pretty good idea. I also installed the Astrovan overhead console so there is a good sized hole to get my hands in there.
Dont think the process is any different on the FWB. Yes, the HL is molded at the front and sorta bends up to form a lip there.

The visors, Overhead Lamp and 2 push pins at the back window along with the Pillar Plastics are about the only things that hold up the entire HL. If you just remove the 3 screws from each visor, the A Pillar Moldings (Maybe B-Pillar too) and the center Dome Light, I think you will see that the headliner will hang pretty low in the front to get a access.

EDIT - BTW - all the wiring I did for the OH Console ran up the A pillar with a harness I made. The Visor and Mirror, I used a stock harness from a donor car and splice it into the B Pillar on the driver side. I found a harness that had both Visors with the Light Option and got a pair of Visors that the mirrors have lights on both sides. I think most of the B-Body cars only light the Pass side.

Remove the visors, courtesy lights/grab handles, A pillars, and storage/sunglass case (if it has one) to allow the headliner to be manipulated. There may also be a Velcro strip in the center if there is no storage/sunglass case. If you are running the wires up the B pillar, you must remove the trim for it too. I would suggest some clips to hold the wire away from the seatbelt if you are going up the B pillar. If it has a Velcro strip, use caution, because the strip on the headliner is easy to pull off, and a pain to reinstall.

Thanks. It does have the sunglass case, so I guess I'm fortunate enough to not have to deal with the Velcro. I'm planning on running power up the A-pillar, though - is there any reason *not* to do this in the Fleetwood?

A pillar is fine, but it is more convenient to go up the B pillar. GM used the B pillar for the wiring. You may be able to tap into a connector at the bottom of the pillar.

Agreed, especially if your new mirror is auto dim, as it needs a reversive lamp signal that is just waiting at the plug at the base of the "B" pillar
