What is the general consensus on the the Hellwig front bar for the b-body? Has anyone tried it with HA compared to f-bar etc. I am about to buy one or the other so I appreciate any input. (ie what does Ed thing of it)

I like mine, a while back someone said that they had a Hellwig bar that didn't fit good. Mine fit great. Was an easy installation.

One of my reasons for going with the Hellwig is that there is no wheel rub. I know some of you F-Body bar guys say yours wheel don't rub, but every Impala I've seen with a F-body bar rubs, also every car I've seen with the HA rubs and about half of the stock bars rub including mine. My Hellwig doesn't.

Once I get it on the track I may decide I don't like it and try the F-body bar, but right now on the street I like it.

Ok so if the hellwig bar is considerably thicker than the f-bar and doesn't rub the tires (I don't see how that happens but maybe I have an older model caprice...) and is considerably cheaper than the HA bar why isn't everyone raving about them? IS the f-bar just the magic one that happens to provide a perfectly neutral setup or is it a cost thing - the f-bar is going to end up costing me alot (already 65 for the wrong bar! ^&*%$^!!...) and I went to almost 20 junkyards today (and called a ton more) and nobody has any old f-body cars at all!!!The closest I came was a TA that had been crushed a few days before I got there... The npd bar apparently is not the same bar and is no good and its almost impossible to find an f-bar (come on - a special handling package on a select few cars that have all been crushed by now? - even the one z28 I did find didn't have the right bar...)

Again I'm curious as to how weight effects understeer - maybe the stock 9c1 bar and HA rear would be fine on a 3500 pounder? Or is it the other way round and I need a thicker bar?

Sorry to ask so many questions but this f-bar has been one of the hardest things for me to find in my life (harder than women, happiness, success etc)- I serously have wasted countless hours (and days off...) searching for one to no avail and am giving up hope that I will ever find one - today was the last straw. I am dying to order an HA bar and BMRs but I have been waiting till I had the right front bar for the setup... I also have the ES bushings and tie rods for an f-bar ready to go - would an 11/4" greasable ES bushing work on a 1.36" hellwig or would it be too tight?

i recently put in the hellwig front bar; it's amazing. i can literally take 20mph highway offramps at 60mph with NO squeal. at the limit, there is noticeable understeer, so i think that the addition of a HO rear bar would make it damn near neutral.

i have heard that the stock front bar combined with the HO rear bar produces HEAVY oversteer, so i would avoid that combo.

Guys,

How much do you all pay for the Hellwig bar?

I may be able to get a good price but I have a feeling you guys probably get them pretty cheap as is, maybe even better than my cost! But my price would be something in the realm of $150 including shipping to the continental US.

mine cost around $128 shipped from summit. (don't have an exact price, it was a present from my brother.)

I ordered my hellwig bar today from summit - an f-bar is just too hard to find anymore...

I may just try to use the ES endlinks and 11/4" greasable bushings if the supplied hardware seems crappy

I figure with the lighter engine even if I add an HA I will still get considerable understeer - perhaps inflating my airbags would compensate for that for a neutral setup?
