I have a '92 Caprice with an L03 engine(305 c.i. TBI). The SES light came on tonight while driving on the highway. I don't think there is a problem but rather a bad sensor.
Does anyone know how I can read the fault codes without a scanner? If I need a scanner, are there parts stores that rent them?

Thanks,
Chris

Do you know where the ALDL connector is? It is just a little black plug under the dash. Take a piece of wire, maybe a paper clip and plug it in so it connects the two holes on the top right corner. Turn the key to run but don't start it. The SES light will flash 1 time pause then 2 times then pause that is a code 12. If it doesn't blink then maybe you didn't get the wire in right. after it blinks the code 12 three times in a row, it will blink any trouble codes. For example if it is an EGR code 32 and that is the only code stored, then when you turn the key to run it will give you the code 12 three times and then it would blink a code 32 i.e. 3 blinks pause 2 blinks. It would do this three times and then go back to 12 and on and on. You can post the whatever code it gives you and we can decifer it for you or you can just go look in a chilton book without buying it like I used to do

Owning a '92 you are lucky to be able to do this. '94 + you need a scanner.
