Alright, I ran new wires, and ran new grounds in the trunk from a previous post. I have tried 3 different head units. I continue to burn the RCA outputs on the head units. I have no idea what the problem is. Nw head unit will play for about maybe 5 minutes then it happens. I tried to narrow the problem, but I'm now lost. I changed amps, ran new RCA jacks, new power and ground wire, and oh yea lost 3 nice head units the process, has anyone else experienced this problem?

sounds like you might be doing something to the rca wires themselves. are you blowing all the rca outputs on the head unit? Are you just running from the head unit rca out directly to the rca input on the amp? Are you running the rca's near anything too hot ar sharp that might damage the inside of the cable? That could create a short and blow the head unit. Are you grounding the rca's? something else is going on. I would run a new set on top of the carpet directly from the rca out on the head unit into the rca in on the amp. The other thing is, is there a speaker wire that is damaged and causing the amp to clip and send voltage back up the rca? Are you running too low of an impedence to the amp? Lets start there and get you some help.

I know the sub amp is rated at 1.3 ohms stable and the subs are running at 1 ohm, but I have been running the setup for 2 months with out a problem until now. I know today I will check all the speaker wires, pull the subs out of the boxes and check their wires, and get some new sets of RCA jacks. It will probably be next week before I can get another head unit though.

Has nothing to do with the amps/speakers wires.
You can not "play" with the rca's if the head unit is on; i.e., if the tips hit metal anywhere in the car, on some headunits, it means death. Never turn on the head unit until it is completely hooked up. Do not disconnect anything once it is hooked up if the head unit is on. All you have to do is let the rca drape down and hit any gorund, and poof.
I would be surprised if it had anything to do with the amps.

Yea everything was hooked up, no RCA wires touching anything, the head units work perfect, but all the RCA jacks are toast

All new wires in, new speker wires ran, new wires series the sub-woofers, before i try a new radio, i will hook a step down up first to see if it burns that before i loose another head unit.

Today's judgment day, Yesterday installed new head unit, new RCA jacks (Stingers), changed all fuses, new 4 channel amp. Sub amp should be in about 12 noon. I hope I fixed my damn problem, I'll see if I get smoke tonight after my night class.

testing all components outside of the car.
years ago when i did it, i would pull the car battery for a while. now that i have a 12 volt power supply, i don't have to do it anymore.

just hook up the head unit to the amp and use one speaker. i usually do this in the garage but the kitchen table is just as good.

let it play for a few, 5 min maybe or as long as it takes until the problem happens.
if all goes well on the bench test then there should not be a reason for it to fail in the car.

Alright bass amp came in, bench tested everything, looked good even used a volt meter to see if i had any voltage surges, I'll be installing today around noon.

How did it go? Did it clip the amp or blow the RCA's?

It all went fine, but the only thing I didn't change were the 2 power cables, I ran new RCA's, new Grounds, new fuses, new speaker wire, new head unite, and 2 new amps, so basically I have a new system.
