Some sending units have problem with the flexible fuel feed hose (connects from pump outlet to underside of sending unit bulkhead) popping loose, or in my case, the 'cap' that fits on top of the fuel pump can have a bad seal/grommet and fuel just leaks past this fitting. Did you change the strainer?

Danger Will Robinson! Don't ever let that pump go dry like that - seriously, it cooks the electric pumps.

Sometimes depending on where you put your jack you might have fouled up the alignment of the sensor. Since you have rear drum brakes, your rear ABS I think are on the differential. Sometimes torqueing the car right or left throws these off. See if cleaning them will help. All kinds of road gunk and brake lining fragments (esp. on the front ones) will set the light off.
