Hi Everyone-
I am replacing the tierods, centerlink, and idler arm on my 93 9c1. I got the tierods unseated from the knuckles and the centerlink unseated from the Pitman Arm. My problem is on the driverside tierod and centerlink to Pitman Arm, the nut on top of the stud will not come off. The stud will just spin as I try to get it off. Anyone know a solution to this besides breaking the nut or sawing the stud? Thanks

Are you using an impact? Try tightening it to seat the tapered stud and then try again to loosen. An impact usually works good on the front end parts.

Don't worry about seperating the tie rods from the centerlink...just get the centerlink off the pitman arm and unbolt the idler from the frame, the spindles are already off the tie rods, so thats good too, the whole linage will drop once you get that one joint seperated.

That said, have you tried tapping a pickle fork in between the pitman and centerlink to provide some spreading force to hold the stud stationary for you to crank the nut off without the stud spinning free? If the impact doesn't work, that might...if not you should be able to cut the nut off. If the stud is spinning that free when you try to turn the nut to loosen the linkage, then it's very good to be replacing it. Generally when the stud spins easily the joint is VERY VERY VERY worn out. You should notice a big improvement in the steering when you have this done, and then, like me, you'll want a new steering box

Mike 454-
Yeah, it's 180K and only the Idler Arm was once replaced. So I'm sure it's as ragged as they come. What I finally did was reseated the stud and it came off no problem. Only thing now is that the new Idler Arm and Centerlink will not line up. The Idler Arm is about 15degrees tilted. Weird but that's my new post. Thanks for the advice-
