Hey guys, I'm new to the community, just wanted to say hey to everybody.

I'm buying in the near future, a two tone 1995 Chevy Caprice 9C1 Police Package which was never used for Police duty. There's a story behind that, which I'll endulge in after I've bought it.

I currently own an 87 Caprice LT1 Maine State Police Interceptor, and my baby, a 73 Pontiac Catalina with the 400ci engine. I'm selling the 87 Caprice to my Uncle for 1000 dollars so I can afford the 95 Caprice.

As I mentioned, it's two tone, Black over Silver paint, nearly perfect condition. It has all the records ever kept for it, the paint is brand new save for a scratch it has on the rear right side, and the car was driven by an elderly fella who babied the car like it was his daughter.

I was wondering what your opinions would be on this: Should I get the Impala SS grill, trunk lid, and wheels for the vehicle? If I do, what would you all think of pushbars on the front of that vehicle despite the SS Grill? If I don't get alloy wheels, where can I get the same Chrome Trim rings and Chevy Logo Centercaps that the police normally used? (In my opinion I'd rather go for that since it's cheaper and sharper looking than the 5 spoke wheels).

Thoughts, Opinions?

Hey Gomer...... come on in and enjoy the

Our opinions shouldn't matter, do what you like and think is best. We are very opinionated as you may come to find out. But just take it all on the lighter side for as long as you can.

We must hear the story about the car, so please do tell us when you are ready.

There are many members here that know alot of things, like where to get parts. Always check ebay, as you never know what you may luck up and find for cheap.

Did you run the VIN? Id like to read the story on how it was NOT used for police services.
Are you sure it has a LT1? Does it have a G80? Pics? Mileage? :D

thanks
Yeah, I'm gonna save the story for until I buy it. Call it personal superstition. I'll tell the story, then next thing I know somebody will buy it under my nose.

But now that I think about it I think I'm gonna go with the SS Grill, not the trunk lid, and the chrome Trim rings and Chrome Chevy emblem centercaps. Save money and still manage to make the car look pretty sharp.

The 87 Caprice I have is an LT1 no doubt, I've had it for years now. Infact it's on the Cardomain link under my sig picture. The 95 I have run the VIN on, and the story the owner (or the owners son at least, the owner died of old age) checks out, it is a 9C1, and it has been in one minor accident, but the frame and body remain uncomprimised. The doors open and shut smoothly, and the car rides as it should.

There are no 87 LT-1's. They are only in 94-96 B-bodies (as well as 90's F-bodies and Corvettes). You need to do some research on 9C1's. Go to 9c1.com for a lot of info and do the VIN check and find out what engine is in the car you are looking it. (Run one on your 87 also for the engine info.) Check the SPID codes in the trunk and determine what equipment it has. Not all 9c1's are equipped the same.
Check the car out thoroughly and don't believe anything you haven't been able to verify about the car's history.
Good luck!

Yup, I just recently acquired this information LOL.

I was a bit of a newb I admit, but now I've learned. However, the car is definetly a 5.7L 350.

Does that mean he has never been inside the car?

Anyway, there is another forum member who has a nice caprice with an impala grille and pushbars. It does look pretty good in the right colors -- silver should work well.

No comment on that...

Basically what I tried to imply was that the car had been driven gingerly... and not taken around corners at 50mph or driven like a bumper car in Six Flags lol.

Thanks for that info though, I'll keep an eye out for them... and since I suppose it can't do any harm, here's a picture of the car.

1. Get the SS stuff.....got it on my 9C1.

2. Not the push bars......tacky....(well, you did ask for opinions
).

3. Post in the For Sell page for the 9C1 wheels....plenty of guys have them who are willing to part with them.

4. I opted for American Racing Wheels #767. They are virtually identical to the 9C1 rims.....have a chrome center cap.....and are 1" wider. This means wider than stock (up to 275/50/15) tires are possible. Tire Rack and Summit Racing carries them.

5. I'm switching to SS rims in April, so mine will be on the market ;) .

6. Welcome to the Forum and congrats on your upcoming purchase!

That surely is not a factory two tone, but I like it. Could've been a fleet order...... gotta know the "rest of the story"

*smile* Yup.

Well... I may be cursing myself but oh well. I'll just have to act really quickly next week to secure that car.

This car was part of an order of 127 North Carolina State police cars sold through the Sir Walter Raleigh dealership. The NC State police could not accept delivery because the two-tone paint was applied upside down (reversed). Rather than repaint all of the cars, the dealership offered them for public sale. This guy's father, bought this particular one. Never saw a single days worth of Police Duty. His father, who died in April, left the car to his son, who is selling it.

By the way I know that does sound too good to be true, but according to the VIN he gave me in an E-mail, it checks out. Unless he grabbed the VIN off some other car or something crazy like that.

*EDIT*

I've sent him another E-mail requesting an actual picture of the SPID under the trunk lid you've just recently taught me about

Very nice looking car. Moose is right about the wheels, you already have them just need the dress. I say go for the ss grill, in black. Good luck on the purchase.

Wow. A whole fleet of upside down paint jobs. Bet someone got kicked in the butt for that!

NICE RIDE! Hope all goes well in securing it. Looks darn near new!

BTW- You'll really enjoy the LT1. Have you driven it yet?
