Has anyone installed a Homelink module into their visor? I just bought a visor mounted Homelink module off E-bay and just wondered how easy it's going to be to install. Not sure how to take apart the visor upholstery to install the unit.

Easy? If you're talking about taking the upholstery on the sun visor apart to do this.....then it is not an easy task for someone unfamiliar with the job. I can't seem to find any details here but pretty sure I've seen some pics and discussion on this very topic. Just can't find the thread.

It may be best for you to talk to an upholsterer in your area and see what they may charge. Maybe you could pickup a spare visor to do a little work on yourself and see what your capabilities may be. Depending on how this module installs, maybe you just cut a hole in the middle and the unit sandwiches in there and covers the material?

I figured out how to remove the upholstery (real easy actually). I then figured out how to "open" the plastic halves of the visor. Like you said, now it's just a matter of figuring out the location I want to mount the u it then cut the opening and place it then close the plastic halves and replace the upholstery then cut holes for the buttons and install the face bezel. I'll post pics once I get into the project.

Consider adding the overhead console from Astro-van. Popular mod years ago,and would likely be easier to add HomeLink to once installed...

If one wants to install a Homelink button somewhere, cool. I just leave the GDO clipped in the DS door pouch compartment so it would not leave a depression in the visor. Astro overhead would be another option or in the coin tray left side of dash

If I was to install one in visor it would be on the "up" side of the visor

I guess ideally transplanting a mirror from a more modern car that has Homelink, Bluetooth mic for phone, etc...IDK if the "brains" for a Homelink mirror are in it or part of PCM in the 2 newer DD cars I have

Right now I have a visor clip on Blurtooth device to go "hands free" in car for phone....Can't hold phone while driving here in Calif.

Yeah I think when I install the Homelink in the visor it will be with the buttons on the side facing the headliner when in the stowed position.

I already have a BlueAnt hands free device.

I'm not a big fan of overhead consoles. Maybe if I seen one installed I'd like it.
Really?...I love the one I installed a long time ago. I use it everytime I drive the car just for Sunglass Storage alone is pretty good option. Bu tI really love the compass and Temp feature no to mention the Maplights that come in very handy at times. The CD holder get's very little use along with the Garage door Opener section since I lost the remote for that anyway. I would think the CD Holder could be modified quite easily to swing down and provide for a Video monitor for the kiddies in the back.

Cant show you any pics since PhotoBucket decided to go all rogue on us and change the way they do business. But this thread here is one of the most comprehensive ones out there and has some pics with EXACTLY how to do this. Don't get me wrong you have some wiring to do and need some serious "guts" to tackle the whole carving up a perfectly good headliner thing but more than worth it to "me" and I love mine.

HAIL

I have seen in 1 of the threads here where instead of cutting the headliner, he cut the Console to better conform to the HL in the car but that was some serious work too. At least you got some things to reference here if you decide to go this route and leave your visor alone. The Console could also provide you some options for the Homelink install to consider.
