This might be a stupid question but could this brace be installed if you have an SSRI III? Also does anyone have any comments or complaints about this brace? Thanks in advance.
Looks kinda neat, but has absolutely zero affects (positive or negative) whatsoever on the suspension/handling on our cars. It bolts to the body, not the frame. Even Hotchkis will tell you this if you ask them.
Ed, you seem to be the Grand Master of Auto Crossing. I was inspired by the ISSCA Auto Crossing event here in Vegas so I thought getting the Impala to handle would be pretty cool. Therefore I figured you'd be a good answer man for my question. Would it be in my best interest to "piece together" a Hotchkis TVS type system without the engine bay brace? Or would it be "better" just to get the whole system and hang the engine bay brace up on a wall or garage as a decoration? I am looking at lowering my car as little as possible and still get a great quality and looking suspension product. Any ideas from anyone out there are invited. Thanks.
My opinion: Useless on our fully framed vehicles with the way the suspension is setup. If we had struts, then yeah it would probably help a bit, but we don't.
I have the Complete Hotchkis Setup.
Extended Rear Control Arms
Springs
Bags
Sway Bars
HAL QA1 Shocks
Navy Lifer's fron end upgrade with 5/8" BJ, DelALum Bushings and Offset Upper arms..
Engine Bay Brace was a waist and not installed..
Overall this is a Very Nice setup, Depending on how stiff I set the springs, I DEFINATELY Need stickier tires.
I spoke to a guy with the Brace at our last picnic. He told me that the only thing it is good for is support. That is supporting him! He said climbing up on made it very easy to get to the back of the engine.
Yeah, it's a carry-over from the rice crowd. They really work on those unibody strut-suspended jobs, but on B-bodies they're just window dressing. Another instance of 'function' ending up as just 'style' (or lack thereof).
