I was at the local boneyard today and was pleasantly suprised to find a caprice and a few Camaros early and late.

My question is how can you identify which car has the correct front swaybar that will work on our cars.

BTW, I have a 95 9c1, is the F-body bar better?

Sorry for the lamo questions which I'm sure has been discussed on and on.

you'll want one from a 2nd gen f-body
it will be obvious if it has the beefy bar or not.
It will either look very big (little bigger than stock one you have) or very tiny you'll laugh at it. Surely you don't want the tiny one.

That's what I had on all my cars and I have it on my wagon. For kicks when I had my 9c1 I drove two days with no front bar at all as I was waiting for the endlinks and TALK ABOUT SWAY I thought I was gonna fell on the passanger seat taking turns.
Also get new end links as the ones you have will most likely snap.

According to Scott Mueller the reccomended bar is from the Chevrolet IROC Camaro Z-28,1985-87. This bar was 2mm Smaller than the same year Trans Am bar and is 1.25 OD. It is 35.107 percent stiffer than stock. Chevy is out and they may be hard to find in the junk yard. Some aftermarket companies are makiing clones. National Parts Depot and BMR to name two. For end links try DAL GM part # 10221779. Complete 95-96+F-body 1LE Urethane end links. About $ 7.00 each.

Whoa guys,

The 2nd Gen F-body bar fits 70-81 F-bodies. Easiest way to find one is to locate a 79-81 T/A with "WS6" emblems on the rim center caps or one with a disc brake rear. Also, 301-V8 Turbo T/A's have rear discs and WS6 suspension. There two larger bars and one small bar. The two larger bars are only 1-2 mm different in diameter. Easy to confuse if it is rusty. I found mine on a '79 carcass that still had a very bent and untouched disc brake rearend on it. Paid $20. Don't let the yard guy know that it is valuable. Tell him you found it on a 77 Buick. Good luck.

Whats rust?

Anyway, I'll go out next week and have another look around

Thanks for all the great info.

I guess all I'll need are some sockets and a ruler.

Rust is something present in an area (like ours) where there is no smog or smog checks, and virtually no crime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
