I'm about to replace the rear window struts on my 11 year old car and my wife is complaining that I'm taking too long to get the parts and fix it. She thinks I should have spares on hand so she never has to go a day in the future with the glass resting on her head as she loads and unloads the car. I don't blame her. I don't want to buy spares if they last 10 years either. What are peoples experiences? Do they last 2 years, 5 years, or are these the original ones that came with my car? Obviously I should have bought some spares when I noticed them leaking months ago.

Depends on who made them. My 94 just had one go out (it was probably the original). I wouldn't waste money on a spare.

lol @ Nick' answer... I went to the "Canuck tailgate support mod" after one of my stuts expired on a -40 morning. Lived with it for a winter, then swapped on two good used ones that work fine.

well most sporting goods stores have 'em,. but you'll need to tape the end up right so it won't slide off the glass, and you can cut to the right length,. eh? ;)

I like to get 'em in the gift set and do homeplate bypass at the same time. [Wink]

I ordered mine from Dal.
Rear glass struts r or left 28.01 each

I assume mine were the originals but there is no way to tell. Sounds like they last 5-10 years normally.

I received my new OEM rear window struts from Dal yesterday. The brand is Stabilus. One has an '04 date code and the other a '06 date code. Both my old ones that came off had a '95 date code on them so they must have been original. Hopefully it is a long while before I need to buy new ones. Although it is probably the easiest job I've ever had to do to the car. I also got my new grill and oil cooler lines. Once the weather warms I'll tackle the oil cooler lines. I'm tired of looking at a broken grill so I'll replace that within a few days I'm sure.
