Hey guys, I'm pretty new here and I'm pretty new to GM. I have a '93 Roadmaster Estate Wagon. I have more than a few questions, but for the purpose of this thread, I will limit myself to one opening question, and that is this:

What is the best way to modify a Roadmaster wagon? To my knowledge, it is a L05 engine, which is not desirable. Is it at all feasible to build on an L05? Or is a swap to an LQ4 or the like really the only way?

Like I said, I don't have experience with GM and need all the help I can get! Thanks guys.

I used to have the same question. I modded it by buying a 95. cwm1
I searched in the Engine Performance section for L05*. The forum search doesn't recognize 3 characters or less, but the * kinda works.
Vortech heads are an option, this thread also mentions thirdgen.org and stroked options. There is an easy caddy cold air intake, I don't know how much it would add.

It depends on what you are capable of, and what you want to achieve. Swapping an LQ4 into a 93 wagon is a substantial undertaking, but is totally doable. You can even mod the LQ4 before installing it to get even more power. You will get the most bang for the buck with an LQ4 or LQ9 rather than monkey around with an LO5. By the time you modify an LO5 to get a decent amount of HP, financially you can put the LQ4/9 in, and have even more power. A stock LT1 will not have the power of a stock LQ4/9, and will require about the same amount of work. Check the engine swap thread. You will have to make a few specific mods to install the LQ4/9, but you will be happy with the performance. You need a compatible trans for the LQ4/9 as well.

Thanks for chiming in guys. Not really an option for me to get a different B-Body as my wagon has sentimental value to me.

How hard is it to swap from OBD-I to OBD-II? Or is it not an issue at all if I can find an LQ4 with the ECU and harness?
