this is my second time doing this, the first time was 3 years ago when I redid the interior. My back and left shoulder will be feeling it tomorrow. That 3rd bold against the firewall for the blower cover was a major PITA, I left it off because I know this will be a yearly event. At any rate here are some pics

If you install a flapper on the end of the cowl drain (behind the fender) it should keep most of the vermin out. The 94 and later cars did not have the flapper that the 91-93 cars have. A small stainless hinge, and a piece of sheet metal, or roof felt makes a good flapper. There is also a drain on the driver's side, if you are inclined to do it as well.

Flap is on the passener's side at the red circle, and the opening on the driver's side is at the red circle on the that side.

I use rat wire 1/4 inch galv steel mesh on to lower opening down low of the fire wall area. this is open and critters get in. I also did this on my 84 camaro there are 2 air inputs on both sides but up high on that vehicle ...rivet and washer to hold in place and perhaps some Dow 795 as a sealant material to also hold and seal the edges .

this will never happen again if you do this also no air flow issues ..

Wow, that sure is nasty. This has been debated somewhat as to how effective they are but adding a AirFilter Kit to the opening at the FW leading into the Fan Area could help block them. The filter I used also has the Wire Mesh in it so they won't chew through that and the outside air is at least filtered coming into the car. You could also use just some wire mesh like was mentioned and figure out how you want to mount it in the opening.

Putting the wire mesh over the fan inlet would be a better solution than putting it over the end of the drain. The end of the drain could clog, and you could end up with water in the car.

If you suspect they are coming in through the condensation or drip tube, a better option may be to replace the stupid rubber elbow that always seems to fall off anyway with a longer section of hose.

I doubt they could migrate in to the car thru the elbow, but having a longer hose on there could server 2 purposes. 1) it would be hard for them to crawl up inside the hose.. 2) this works great to keep water from dripping on the car frame when AC is on and Condensation is running out.

I just used an old section of heater hose and put a clamp on there to keep it attached to the port at the firewall. aC water drips right to the ground.

The problem is the critters making nests in the fan. I have never heard of any coming in through the drain.

Neither did I, it was just mentioned here about putting mesh over the drain hole which could get clogged and is such a small opening anyway. I agree with your assessment and that drain port made me think of the longer drain hose. Maybe I'm thinking of a different drain that was mentioned. In any case, carry on......:smile2:

I put 20 plus years ago an extension on the evap drain hose. reason was it dripped on the O2 sensor .............
