Early disclaimer, I don't know much about AC. But here's what's going on. I bought the car almost a year ago never really needed to use the AC up until recently. The AC compressor wouldn't kick on at all so I figured it needed freon. I added freon using the AC Pro recharge kit and the compressor would kick on for 2-4 seconds and off for the same amount of time repeatedly. Also it appears the sensor that's on the dryer near the fuse box (low side?) and the one by battery (high side?) both seem to be working because when I unplugged either one the fans & compressor both stopped. When the car is off the gage (the one that came with the kit) reads at about 35 & when idling with the AC on max it reads at around 70 when the compressor is off and drops just a little when the compressor is on. I have videos to send if that helps. Thanks in advance!

The compressor does cycle on and off. If the AC works, I would consider having it checked by a shop to determine if you have too much refrigerant in the system.

The sensors interrupt the signal, either by interrupting the call signal at the accumulator, or ground at the compressor.

Yes still no AC at the moment. Luckily my dad is a certified mechanic so I guess I'll have to drive out and take it to him. Thought I could go at it myself with the little research I did but guess not lol. Thanks for your input!

It could actually still be low. Ours had discharged to the point the compressor wouldn't engage at all. Adding some freon will allow the compressor to kick on, but if the amount is still too low, it will continue to cycle like that, and not cool.

You didn't mention the pressures you were seeing, but if you have a mechanic in the family, definitely take it to him, he can put some gauges on it to see where you're at pressure-wise.

Exact copy all. I've been adding 1 to 1 1/2 cans at the start of each summer using a good gauge refiller to regain good pressures for the past 4 of 6 years I've had this latest driver. It's worked great, but this year the system simply refused to take up the charge no matter what. It just kept quickly cycling despite vigorous shaking, putting can in hot water, ......

I found a well-repped mom-n-pops place and $180 later they said it was just VERY low (<1/2#), so a simple total evacuate, dye, something like ~1 1/2# total charge, and all better. They couldn't find a leak.

This reminded me I need to go out a moonless night with my little uv flashlight and check for that leak.

ps - This shop is EXTREMELY rare nowadays. Despite my mentioning new hardparts (orifice, rec./dehydrator, whatever usually gets changed out w/ a charge-up), they found nothing to indicate the need so they didn't pile on the usual tack on work.

if compressor cycling on and off you need to add more freon until it stays on. what happens is the compressor starts pulling and the pressure falls below the cut out point and it shuts it off

Ours was leaking at the cycling switch on the dryer can. It's also leaking at at least the high side charging port, and probably the low-side port. On our '02 2500HD, I could hear a little 'pfft' when I removed the low-side charging port cap, so know it's leaking there. It was also leaking at the cycling switch, which we replaced a few weeks ago. Now, we get about 1.5 month before needing a recharge.

I just received a couple of cool tools to be able to replace the Schrader valves w/o losing too much pressure. Just haven't had time to get to them yet. Hopefully next weekend, while we're out there working on the race car.
