You can start with 3.73:1 gears to replace the 2.56s. Then get a looser converter when you upgrade your heads and cam. Look in this section, there's a thread started by kdrolt *i think* that links to a couple of articles saying how to make a 305 develop between 340 hp to 430 or so HP. The first thing to do with either L03 or L05 is to ditch the restrictive heads and cam.

Also, look in your trunk SPID label and find if its a L03 (05) or L05 (350)

9C1 is the police package. It includes oil cooler, suspension, seats, instrumentation (dashboard), wheels, axle and brake differences, among other things.

Start with a cold air induction, dual exhaust, gears (although if you have a GU6 on the tag, it is a 3.42 and you may not want to change the gear). Do a search on TBI, LO3 (305), LO5 (350) mods or look for postings by KDROLT. Ken is kind of the resident TBI mod expert. He can direct you to the info you need.

Welcome Stan.

1. See the SEARCH button if you scroll the screen up and to the right? Do a search on ALL forums (learn to use the pulldown menus) and look for the ones with my username kdrolt in the last year. Many will concern TBI mods, and there are links to other sites from there.

2. You SPID decal shows what your car came with when it was built. LO5 = 350; LO3 = 305. Both are v8s.

3. 9C1 = police package option. Learn more at http://www.9c1.com and get Edwin Sanow's book "Chevrolet Police Cars 1955-1996", which you can find on the web at booksellers like http://barnesandnoble.com among others. It costs around $16.

4. These forums have a TON of info on them, and they link to other forums like the Camaro/Firebird (F body cars) forums too, where a lot of TBI (throttle body fuel injection) mods can be found. So learn to USE the search feature and spend a few days reading. If you do that, you are much more likely to get help when you do have a tough question.

5. Your '92 is essentially the same underbody and much of the same drivetrain used from 1977-1996 in all B-platform cars (including my '94 Caprice 9C1), and all WX3 cars (which some people call the Impala SS merchandised trim package). So many of the ideas discussed for these cars, especially when it comes to tires, wheels, springs, swaybars, shocks and other chassis items, will also work on YOUR car.

6. Your car is a 1992; if it shows LO5 on both the trunk SPID sticker, and on the emission decal under the hood, then it was rated at 205 hp at the flywheel (which is often abbreviated as fwhp) and 300 ftlbs torque (also measured at the flywheel). The other v8 used in 1992 was the 305, and it's called the LO3 on the SPID.

If your car was equipped with a speed limiter from the factory (code VZ2 on the SPID), then it only had H-rated tires from the factory and it would be limited to 130 mph. If your car had V-rated tires from the factory (see your driver's door sticker for factory tire info), it would not be limited electronically by the computer because the aerodynamic drag would stop you from going faster than 132-135 based on owners comments and based on testing by the Michigan State Police late in 1991.

Your car would also run low 16s, and perhaps high 15s in cool weather, in stock configuration on a quarter mile track. One Forum reader/poster has a '93 and he has run 15.87 so far this spring.... I suspect he can run 15.7 in cold weather (this fall) if he does nothing else to his car. Of course if he does mod his car slightly (and there's a good chance of that, now that he's hooked), he may run mid 15s. That's excellent for a non-LT1 car and it's getting close to 94-96 LT1 performance. btw, he is doing his mods on a thin budget because he is still in school.

7. As far as mods to make it faster, since you seem very new to this, you might read/learn for a while to see what other owners have done, and are doing. That way you will know what modifications will do for you when you instal them, and how much they'll cost. That's the best way to avoid throwing your money away on hype. It's also worth reminding you that if you REALLY want to go fast, it will cost money. So I advise you to do the proven inexpensive stuff --- AFTER you do your homework by reading the website(s) and use the search tool to focus in on your specific needs.

FYI (for your information), HTH (hope this helps). - Ken '94 9C1

Great!

It depends on what you change it with.

If you can find a junkyard ECM from a 91-93 LO5 **9C1** that DIDN'T have code VZ2, and if the door jamb sticker DOESN'T list H-rated factory tires, then it should do the job. Or you'd have to get someone to reflash the ECM you have, and that's waaaaay out in the future if you are just starting out.

That said, you have few opportunities to test the 130 mph speed limiter, especially safely (i.e. no other cars near you, and you're sure your own balljoints and front and rear suspension are is shape) nevermind the legalities, so in my opion (IMO) you'd be better off spending your time & $$ on doing other things to the car that you can benefit from.

One last thing, and this i suseful for any 9C1 or 9C6 (taxi) owner out there that hasn't done this yet.

Call 800-222-1020 (Chevy hotline) during the week. Tell them that you have a Caprice Police Package and you understand that there may be several outstanding federal recalls on it, that have not been completed. Have your VIN ready to give them over the phone. They will then tell you exactly how many, if any, apply to your car. I can think of several that might be applicable and haven't yet been done: rear lower control arms, ABS modulator, faulty steel wheels, gas tank straps, gas pedal mounting.

The best part is that you get these all done at a nearby Chevy dealer FOR FREE. They are covered under a Federally mandated RECALL, so they don't cost you a cent to have them done. I had three done on my car (incl the same lower control arm job as above).

FYI. My $0.02. - Ken

For more info on your car you can check the SPID-codes on my site. I have hundreds of SPID-codes on my site. There´s also a VIN-decoder. Just click the link in my signature and go to "History of my Caprice".

Maikel dude
on your site i saw that you changed the dome light to some different one :D
i was wondering did you change the wiring or something? or the stock dome light wires handle the voltage that that light uses(and do not burn)?
thanx
