IMO 600RWHP would be enough for anyone who is using the car primarily for street driving. If you are looking for more than that an LS1 F-body would make more sense. 800-850 seems like overkill for the street to me. You can still have a lot of fun with far less power.

I started with a goal of 500 RWHP and made 501. I have owned the car for 8 years and it has been down a drag strip twice (never with the new setup.) On 275 street tires and stock-ish suspension it's all over the road. I don't street race or drag race, so I am really not sure why I did all the work to start with, but it sure is fun!

OK, so this thread has very nice info.
Building a 800+ rwhp impala's is not cheap at any means. People who are owners of such vehicles and shops that do this kinda of stuff can tell us this.

First, you have to have an idea on what are your plans with the car. Is it going to driven daily or 4-5 days a week? Or is it going to be driven on weekends or sunny days? If driven regularly then 500-600 rwhp should be plenty in my opinion.
Of course, you can do the radical set ups that can get you a lot of horse power, but be warned , big power = big spending. Period.

1) Open ended questions with no background info or goals from newbies tend to get ignored (or refered to a previous sticky).

2) Multiple incoherent posts regarding the quest for power, without any correspondence besides a low ball budget will most likely get pointed towards a shop.

3) Keep pressing "senior members" (which I am not) with these questions and shady offers (and non-existant payments) on the Parts For-Sale/Wanted section, THEN I WILL FLAME YOU when you do not absorb any knowledge or contribute to the forum in any way.

Senior a$$holes are glad to share what we know & what mistakes we have made but please put in effort from your end as well :D.

I disagree... It started as, and still is, a sh!tty thread that contains a few sticky worthy posts.

Look at the first page, it has failure written all over it.

Too bad a few very good posts are lost in this big mess... cwm5

great idea. Delete everything but the few good posts and we're good! :)

Not just any shop can get you into a turn key 800RW motor / driveline setup with a itemized recipt
I would bet that FLP has a strong back bone for any odd items that could arize post build / install.
FLP's quote is not out of line in my opinion,

LT1 PCM 2bar Speed density setup will support accurate fueling and spark
that is scaleable and accurate from 30" vacuum to 15.5 PSI
the 2bar map is like $80 on summit an $5 at the salvage yard
the labor and time to get the VE table razor sharp is not a 1 hour deal like a normal Dyno MAF tune.
I see no reason that a 383ci LT1 @ 15.5 PSI could not make 900RWHP+ thru a T56

Real world examples of good power on 2 bar LT1 I have personally setup and tuned:
750RWHP single turbo 355 LT1 @ 14 PSI thru ProBuilt 4L60E
650RWHP / 850RWTQ on a Joe Mejia built D1 383 LT1 @ 11 PSI radically detuned thru FLP 4L80
450RWHP 450RWT fully stock long block 350 LT1 V2 super charger @ 10PSI thru T56
Last combo is getting redone soon w/ Joe Mejia Built 383 Trick Flow AI heads custom cam at Vortech YSI @ 25PS1

The big picture A is:
800RWHP motor in a stock Impala SS
is 100% going to blow the tires to liquid from a dead stop launch
side ways at 100MPH joke
and thats if you dont break anything in the drive line
then you have to stop it if you dont bounce off a K-rail first :)

The big picture B is:
streetable 800RWHP motor and driveline that is working great driving like stock like a new LS9 ZR1
dyno tune is all done, and it drives across country, and ET's too
with full suspension, big meats, big brakes, huge fuel system, gauges,
big radiators, full aux cooler set up, kick out trap door pan,
160MPH ride height, certified roll bar, etcccc...

That is now a recipt for a big body super sexy 4700lb super car
a 4700lb super car that puts down GXRs and Bussas from a roll
4700lb super car makes koenigsegg owners go wtf @ 120

A 5.7 LT1 B-Body with excelent paint an interior costs $5-9K in Cali.
to outfit a koenigsegg killing B-body to be up to par / worthy of a 800RWHP mill will cost magnatudes more than the car and forged motor is worth.
I for one, am saving this just in case this thread gets deleted or another crash happens. Best damn summary of SS super car i've ever heard in my life.

If only in my dreams...

Just when you thought you bought everything for 800+

BOSTIC...the engine wasn't missing anymore at the last 1/8 of the run which of course was a result of the new
100 amp chinese battery which hold up the juice to let the injectors do their job all the way! Before
the voltage could drop from 12.5 to 10.5 V during a run! The new battery is also charged beween the
runs! But the SS was still smoking of too much gasoline, while the log said it was too lean...

So this is kind of an old thread...

Thought if you convert to a '96 PCM you can get higher RPM but is there an issue with the boost?

I am considering having my stock, low mileage (<80k) LT1 rebuilt as a stroker with better heads and slapping a Magnuson SC on it. Curious what this setup is likely going to make.

I understand the factory 6.2 in the CTS-V makes about 600hp with similar setup. I already have a rear end and driveshaft that can handle that kind of power so I would need a better transmission but otherwise my car as it sits is pretty much there. Would likely do a brake upgrade too.

I am expecting in the neighborhood of $12k-15k for the motor and SC setup and probably another 5k to upgrade the brakes. I already have upgraded my suspension with lowered variable rate springs and qa1 shocks with the beefiest sway bars and adjustable control arms available. Would likely upgrade the exhaust as well. My current brakes are slightly upgraded using synthetic brake fluid and both of the bias valve modifications. I know I need serious upgrades to fuel system as well... This old cop car currently would run low 13's if the trans wasn't currently broken.

Will also do whatever I can to get away from the optispark too... The LS1 style coil pack setup.
