If I wanted to swap a gray leather interior from an Impala into a 9C1, about how much would it cost? I know I'd have to buy the leather seats, carpet shell, door panels, dash, headliner, etc., so I'm sure it won't be cheap...just wondering how cheap it won't be.

Also, related to that, is it possible to convert the 9C1's column shifter into the Imapala-style floor shifter? Or can the 9C1-Impala interior conversion be done without having to do that?

well i dont know hom much it would cost but you can do it without the floor shifter. You can use the interior of a 95 impala cause they never had the floor shifter. i might guess at least 1000$ american or more i have really no idea but something around there.

It won't be cheap, but it doesn't have to be all that expensive either. The seats and center console are a must, but most everything else can be done with vinyl dye. As long as you use quality dye, and proper technique, you will get high quality, permanent results.

The seats can be as low as $650 for a complete set, and the console can be from $300 to $450. A carpet can be difficult to do dye, and will cost between $100 and $300. The seatbelts should also be replaced, but I'm not sure how much this costs. A few small pieces on the door panels will need replaced as well, and again I don't know the cost, but it isn't much. If you're careful, you can do the headliner quite well with vinyl dye. All the rest of the plastic trim can be recolored as needed.

With the money you save this way, you can invest in all the little things, such as the rearview mirror, the cigarette lighter, the space to the left of the instrument cluster, the lights on the front doors, and the lights just above the rear doors. I'm not sure, but I believe the sunvisors are slightly different on the impala as well (anyone care to verify?).

For parts only, I would budget at least $1500. More if you want to get into minute detail with all the trim parts.

Dyeing is probably the best bet for most of the hard plastic pieces. Shop on Ebay for interior pieces if you are looking to make a clone, or read through this forum for other iteas. Replace the carpet, etc. The problem is, once you start, it is very hard to stop. It took me a year to finish mine, but had much fun doing it.

I just did the full Impala conversion on my 96' 9c1. Everything matches up perfect. The center will bolt down with some precise drilling, enough not to hit the transmission. I even gutted out the center console department and dropped in a play station 2. The only part that you will need to spray grey is the shifter column. Real easy and about $5 bucks for spray at any auto store. I paid $1000 for the entire interior and it took me about 8 hours. I got it out of crashed one (real lucky). The hardest part were the seatbelts if rusted, use a vise grip. You need a special star key also, which you can buy also at any local auto store. All the electrical coponents clip in perfectly except the power window adjustment. Easy fix: just remove the switch from the door panel with a tiny allen key and plug your 9c1 manual switch in.

THAT'S A WRAP.... GOOD LUCK

I completed an entire clone to my 9C1. It is not hard to do. The only hard part is finding the seats, console and door panels. You can get the grey carpet, headliner, visors, seat belts from a Caprice. The interior pieces such as dash pillars and others can be dyed. If you need some grey pieces I have some various pieces that I dyed medium grey for sale.

What's different about the power window switches between the Impala and the Caprice?

The Impalas are grey and not woodgrain like the Caprice with power seat controls.

Bob: The tan RM interior in question was recently listed on
eBay.. I thought about bidding on it - but decided shipping prices would have been a bit much for me..
