anyone here have a pc setup in their car? I am going to build one that I want to hook up to the audio system as well as a video screen in the front. Im curious as to how everyone has theirs setup. Any pics of your setup? Also, if there is any interest, I can custom build PC boxes for others too. These PCs can play DVDs, music, games, TV (if you have a TV antenna), and even connect to your PCM to run engine diagnostics. A GPS module as well I think. Ill have to look more into it. The box would look like this either in black or silver.

This is on my list too...

I was planning on using a 10" touchscreen lcd screen, my current SounbBlaster Audigy 6.1 channel audio card connected directly to the amplifiers. The computer will also have a HDTV/TV/FM card (to pick up the HDTV broadcasts), wireless LAN card with longer range antenna (already have one..how do you explain how I am posting right now? ::shhhhhhh:: :D , Somehow, mount the DVD-ROM in the front where I could put in the discs, and other stuff.

A good source to check out is www.mp3car.com..many others out there too. I really want to do it, but my money is going into tuition right now =-(

I plan on doing a car computer one of these days but primarly for internet access within the car. I picked up an old 12" LCD touch screen for next to nothing recently. Its not the cats pajamas or anything but it works. I am not really motivated to start on car computer though until the "cellular internet" rates come down in Price. For those of you who havent heard, Sprint and other cell companies now offer devices which allow for a "digital cellular internet connection" that works anywhere you can get a cell signal. The company I work for equips their remote salesmen with them in their laptops, they are pretty sweet and do ~100kbs, not lightning fast but good enough. they work pretty much everywhere and will only get faster. Right now at $80/month for unlimitied bandwidth though, I think ill hold off on it.

A wireless LAN card would definatly go in as well, but...i dunno, i think the temptation to do evil would be kinda high
. Imagine what could be done to all those people you dislike...drive by computer attacks! IE "Drive By dos attacks", packet analizing, relaying millions of spam message into someones network...etc etc etc Kinda funny. So many people have those turn key wireless routers and wireless networks running in their houses these days...Hijacking someones gateway or causing havok to peoples computers with a LAN connection can be perfectly anonomous

Verizon doesn't offer this in northern Ohio yet and Sprint is limited to 300MB (before the surcharges hit). I was curious how well the service works.

The touchscreen is a 3M, im not sure of the model# or vintage, looks a bit old. I got it for $10 from a company my friend works at (they did a big upgrade on all their terminals and were getting rid of a bunch of stuff) also got some 21" crts pretty cheap

The sprint service kicks arse! The plans they all use are infinate bandwidth but are expensive *gasp* $80 a month. im not sure about the 300mb surcharge? They are always tunneled in to our network while on the road so someone would be paying a pretty fat bill. Just looking at a log from yesterday, one guy has 230mb worth of a communication with us yesterday, which ofcourse doesn't include all the porn surfing/message boards they probably do
