What type of CAI's will work on a 94 Caprice with the mechanical fan (V08 option)? The fan shroud is pretty close to the throtle body and towards the air box. I currently have a sewer pipe on going into a swiss cheesed airbox with a K&N drop in. I want to switch to a cone and the cold air box.

Thanks, Steve

Steve, anything that still runs to the left side will work. To use a Rammit or SSRI you will have to remove the VO8.

I just took the fan off completely and did a replica of the SSRI without all the plexiglass pieces. Probabaly not the best idea but since it's still cold up here I don't think I have to worry about the engine getting hot yet. Plan on putting an electrical fan in there sometime.

The car will run and stay cool with just the secondary fan, even in 90*-100*F weather.

Thanks for the replies. It appears anything that comes in from the side (Team SS etc) should work. Pat, when you say secondary fan, you talking about the electric? Have you taken your mechanical fan out?

Yes, sure am. I removed the VO8 mech fan in April 99 for my Hot cam install and delayed getting the primary electric installed until June of 2000. The secondary can be programmed to come at 187* with a HPP, and even in 100*F with the A/C running it will hold 225* coolant temp (30 minutes idling with nose parked to my garage door)

I would like to add, if you remove the V08 mechanical fan, you will gain some power. That fan doesn't take a lot of power, but it takes some, anything you can do to gain a few FT/LBS or Ponies dude. If you go with the CAI, removing the fan will be an added bonus to that, you should definitely notice more power when you do so. I think the mechanical fan is the reason that the LT1 in the civilian caprices is rated at slightly less power than the 9C1 LT1 and Impala SS LT1, even though other than the fan its an identical engine.

Removing the mech fan certainly lets the motor rev up quicker.

As far as being able to run with a secondary fan only, I'm not so sure all cars are the same. My primary went out (yes, the one I recently bought) and the car does run a little hotter. I'll need to stop by the parts yard to see if the guy will swap out w/me.
