I’ve had some focal components in for awhile ran by a jl Xd/400. I finally decided to add a sub an amp to give me a little boom boom😁. The sub is an older kicker comp vr I’ve had laying around for about 14 years. The amp is a old school HiFonics Brutus that I bought new in the 90’s.
I hooked everything up (new rca cables hooked into the head unit) and all I get is static from the sub. All the other speakers/amp are working fine and sound great. I’m stumped…

Well, the first obvious step is to double and triple-check all of your wiring.

It's certainly possible that the amp has gone bad.

Try to bypass the Brutus and use another source to power the sub.

Either the JL amp or the head unit. Just try to see if you can get someone besides static.
All connections and the ground (distribution- block) have been quadruple checked and reinstalled. The sub moves up and down just no music only static. I hope the amp isn’t bad. It’s been a wonderful amp. It’s just been sitting in the box in a closet for about 8 years. It worked when I took it out of my camaro. Thanks! I’ll bridge the jl and give it go. Just a pain in the butt to get to😂 thanks again.

If the wiring is good then it's either a bad sub or a bad amp channel.
Thank you sir! Looks like I need a new amp😞. Can’t be too mad though. It’s done me well over the years.
