I have tried the Intrax springs with my caprice but it put the rear just a bit too low. If I had air bags in the Intrax springs, would it add any height or just keep the car from sagging from the installed height? I chose the Intrax for price reasons. The other kits are just too expensive.

Greetings -

I've got a buddy who had the Eibach springs and airlift bags. And now I've got Hotchkis springs and airlift bags. Assuming you're springs aren't sagging (As in wearing out and lower than they should be) they're just lower than the stock springs. Correct?

What I've seen is that with 5psi in the bags, minimum recommended, the car sits about the same height, the bags just stiffen the ride a little. When you inflate the bags, they WILL raise the car AND significantly increase the stiffness of the spring / ride. Afterall, they are meant for towing. I can't tell you how much, exactly, they raise the car becasue mine is still in the garage awaiting summer. I recall my buddy's car raising up about an inch or so. When I had my 9C1 springs on with the bags, I would get about 1.5" of raise. Just working on the car in the garage and checking for leaks, it looks like with the Hotchkis I'm getting about 1" of raise.

BUT when I say the ride was stiffened I wasn't kidding. With the 9C1 springs and 25-35 psi in the airbags, its was a pretty choppy ride. And probably not something you want to have to ride on all the time.

I've got the Intrax on both the '94 and '95, with the '94 also having Air-Lift bags inside the rear springs. I'd say it looks like it sits about ~3/8 to 1/2 inch higher in the rear than the '95 does.

When you mean it puts the car too low, do you mean you don't like how it looks? From what I can tell it lowered all four corners an even amount, and when I scrap it's usually on the front end.

Thanks for the replies!

Theimpalas, I just don't like the car that low (with the stock 28" tall tires) and thought if air bags would raise it some it might be o.k. I do recall the Intrax being pretty stiff. I'll have to mess around with it or maybe go with stock impala springs.

I have airlift air-bags in back of my 96 stock Impala. I put a stereo system in my car and it caused the back to sit lower then the front. I added the air bags to even out the stance of the car. I keep 13psi and the car sits with a nice rake forward. Stance looks nice. The ride is smooth and not stiff. If I add anything more then 15psi,then the ride becomes bouncy. I plan on adding 20's in the future and haven't decided to drop the car yet. I am very happy with the air bags. When drag racing I keep 13 psi in the left and put 15 psi in the right. It keeps the car from sagging to the right on take off.
