I sense a "set up" here...
If you've never published one of these, it's hard to imagine how much lead time it takes to get these out to the members. We *try* to cut off all editorial and advertising input 45 days before the cover date.
Then I can have two weeks to build the magazine and get it ready to print. Around 30 days before the cover date, if everything is on schedule, we ship the files to to our printer. Harvey and crew gets it back, addresses and stamps it, and we try to get it in the mail by 15 days before the cover date.
If USPS doesn't misplace them for a few days, everybody should receive the magazine by the cover date, or maybe a few days before that. At least that's what we TRY to do.
Of course it hasn't happened exactly like that yet, but every issue we get a little closer.
Chris makes a wonderful point, of course. If we get lots of input from the members, we can get the magazines done earlier and then out on time! I'm still looking for a good way to encourage submissions from our members...
