Hey guys,

So I started to pull my interior out and under the factory insulation on the front passenger floor was a good amount of rust. The rubber/foam insulation by the firewall was wet as well. The car does not run (for 6 months now) so this is not coolant. Everything is on the car (hood, doors, seal etc) so no obvious leaks. Also the drain elbow is present on the firewall.

There are a few threads with good info on this but I just hosed the car down for 20 minutes especially around the cowl, passenger door, windshield etc and no water in the car. The carpet, seats and lower dash are out so I thought it would be easy to find the leak.

I would put everything back thinking it was just the heater core but that rubber foam was wet so there is some type of moisture getting in the car. Before leak testing I cleaned the cowl and door seals. I'm thinking maybe water was building up on the cowl and finding it's way in but I just want to make sure.

So for you guys who had leaks before, when you hose the car down does a good amount of water come in or is it a drip if water is reaching the right places? Also if I'm hosing down the cowl should water be coming out of the AC drain elbow on the firewall? (I'm a little unclear on that leak).

I had a leak along the bottom of the windshield. The adhesive detached from the body, and allowed water to go under it. There really isn't anywhere along the firewall for water to enter. You can check the antenna cable grommet as well, but the wheelhouse pretty much protects it. The vane at the end of the cowl drain, by the right side wheelhouse may be clogged. You can access it from the cowl. Since you have the carpet out, it is not a hole in the firewall.

I made a dam in the suspected area with modeling clay and sectioned it. If it is sealed properly, you can pour water in each section, and if one drains, you know where your leak is.

Thanks for the ideas. I think maybe when the cowl was full of crap water got in under the windshield. When I pulled the cowl I noticed the bottom of the windshield had a weird discoloration which might be the adhesive coming undone. I'll take a picture of it soon.

I soaked everything pretty good so if I don't have water coming in from the hose, I think it should be alright. I just wanted to make sure I didn't overlook something before everything goes back in place.

Not so fast bunkie...you may have a leak that requires a certain amount of water at the right angle. I would test it with a couple of dams to make sure. Never assume anything with these cars, because it will almost always come back and bite you. If there is a leak, you will be pulling the carpet back again until you get it right.

The discoloration may be delamination if you have a Sungate windshield. They are notorious for delaminating. That would not cause a leak.

You could put some dishwashing liquid or kid's bubble blowing liquid along the seams, and run the HVAC fan with the doors closed. It should pressurize the car, and air will come out anywhere there is a leak. Keep the areas you are checking wet with the liquid.

Thanks for the replies guys. Silverfox I've seen your advice but I figured since I soaked the cowl area that was not my problem. I put the hose on the windshield and let the water flow for 10 minutes without a drip in the car. Did you have to put the hose in the cowl to find your leak?

Fred I will take your advice and double check before I move on. I've seen your numerous threads fighting leaks.

I'll be able to do more tomorrow. I'll try to get a bunch of pics to help get some more visuals on here.
