I have decided to go with the LT4 hotcam. After researching the prices of brand new LT4 heads (about $2000), as well as the intake manifold roughly ($450), I figure that maybe I could have a set of aluminum LT1 heads ported to LT4 specs as well as the intake manifold.

Is this the way to go, or should I do something else. Lemme know cwm3

For 2450, that puts you well into AI/LE territory for heads/cam packages.

If you do the LT4 set up pick a different, I am really like my CC503
The LT4 cam isn't really made for our heavy cars

Better yet pick some up off a camaro forum for $150 and you'll be even farther ahead.

On our heavy cars and using the HOTCAM
Add and extra 2 Degrees advance.
It will feel much better.

BUT The LT4 Set up is best saved for a Resto Project.
IMHO the LT4 Heads and Intake are going to be rare items.
Better left to the Resto Industry.

INSTEAD
Look at Aftermarket Combinations.
You would be better off with the new Edlebrock LT4 Intake
Any of the new LT4 based aftermarket Aluminum Heads
Then your choice of Camshafts opens up.

Smart folks also know the LT4 stuff on a 350/355 is best left to an application where you can exceed the pcm's rpm capabilities.

Your ignorace preceeds you where every you go..

The New Edelbrock LT4 Intake has a distinct advantage over the Stock Unit. It can be Ported larger and the Runners are open and exposed for cooling the manifold for Racing.

If you wanted to cut and machine features such as direct NOS. You do not have to cobble up an original unit.

BUT then again I guess those features on your rag don't count..

Got the new stock engine dynoed by Warren Engines.
Still trying to find the time to install

FWIW with unported heads, stock cam, and stock rockers.
The Calculators say the car will run ET's 12.70s on a good day at full weight.

Who needs NOS or Ported Heads ????
