If you follow the directions here


It comes up as an Impala SS serial number.

Click this link: Stick your VIN in the box, then click 'Get Cal ID'.
Select 'PCM / VCM Powertrain / Vehicle Control Module', then click 'Next'.
Select 'Programming', then click 'Next'.

Impalas SS (WX3) use only the following calibration ID part numbers:
'94 Original - 16200341 > 16202491 > 16207221 > 16232021 > 16243011 (FINAL)

'95 Original - 16206641 > 16209351 > 16232011 > 16243041 (FINAL)

'96 Original - 16229981 > 16235361 > 9394931 (FINAL)

Caprices SS (WX8) use only the following calibration ID part numbers:
'95 Original - 16207231 > 16211301 (FINAL)

'96 Original - 16230431 (FINAL)

The windshield VIN, the driver's door sticker VIN, and the trunk sticker VIN, must all match.
The pcm VIN should also match, but most people do not / cannot check this on the spot.
(In an ideal world, the VIN derivatives stamped on the engine and the transmission would also match.)
