im looking for a impala ss i found one not to far from me its a bbb 94 and the title says chevy (CAP)rice and it has fillers on the 1/4 window he told me all 94s had fillers and the car was supposed to be a caprice but chevy made it a imp how can i tell if it a real ss? do any of you guys title say caprice?

A lot of the car titles will have both Impala and Caprice, my car is a 96 Caprice 9c1 and the title reads that way. The four most obvious ways to tell if its the real deal are (WX3 factory code for Impala SS) on the trunk SPID label, LT1 again on the trunk SPID, the letter P in the VIN (Factory code for LT-1 Engine) and dual exhaust. I would look for obvious signs of repainting, firewall a different color than the rest of the car. I am sure others will chime in but these are the ones I can think of.

best bet is to ask for a vin check, dont post the actual vin but ask and somone will do it for you via pm or email. when i first saw your post i was going to say the quarter window filler would be a dead give away to a moded caprice but i google 1994 impala and most the dealership ads and brochures had the quarter window filler.

94 is the easiest to figure out.

if 5th position of VIN is "L" it's a caprice, if it's an "N" it's an Impala (or caprice LS but that's easy to spot), later years they're all "L".

SPID will have "wx3" on it if it's an Impala ss.

1/4 window fillers are correct for 94.

title will say caprice because that's what and impala SS is, a caprice with "wx3" option package.

Also, tire spec's on the driver's door should be for 255/50x17 for SS's.

ok so i checked it out today and it really was a ss i decided not to get it i gotta have a 95 or 96 im just not feeling the fillers or the sideveiw mirrors and worst of all no floor shifter

floor shifter only came in 96s.

96 is also OBD2, more restrictive on computer tuning and 4 O2 sensors , all of this is easy to convert to an OBD1 system however.


94's are faster than the other 2 years too, some might argue but it's been said that they came with as much as 285 HP from factory due to a different cam grind, mine dynoed at 254 HP to rear wheels with a simple cold air intake and dynomax mufflers and a HPP hand held tune (not even a custom tune), ive seen many 95 and 96s 218-225 HP to the wheels. all cars are different however so this is not scientific proof.

94's are the rarest of the 3 years also with just over 6000 built, although that means nothing since these cars aren't worth that much anyway.

if it was me, i'd look for a 95, best of everything, you get rid of the fillers, mirrors are bigger and on the corners rather than on door and you keep it as an OBD1. a floor shifter is a $300 conversion you can do to either 94 or 95.

I got a 94 Impala SS and i have to admit i dont like the window fillers and the small mirrors. In due time you will get used to it or its just money you can always change it. But the 94's are real unique you never see any of them. Only 6303 were made for that year. I had the same concern when i bought my car. Im glad i did some research before i bought mine. Dam i didnt know any of that shame on me thanks that info helps me out alot!!!!! most of the 96s i come across a in the 7,000-13,000 range even with high milage

i had a 94 clone the fillers on the 94 ss reminds me of it but if i cant find a 95-96 i just mite go with the 94 thanks for your input

hold out for a 96. you will want the tach and floor shifter. unless you want to mod a 94-95 to have those things. like i did. i found out after the fact. if i known. i would of held out for a 96.

i think im just going to hold out untill i find a 96 thanks i see its a few on here but ill be damn if i go to canada to get one
