Brake failure, Help

1991 caprice
Brakes do not work at all.

  • Dash BRAKE light is On.
  • Reservoir has fluid.
  • Everything is bled.
  • No leaks
  • New Master cylinder (bled before install )
What could be causing this?
Any help at all is Greatly appreciated

Does the brake pedal go to the floor? Have you jacked up the car and tried to turn a wheel with the brakes applied? Need more information.

Did you bench bleed the new master cylinder? If not you could have air trapped in it. Any leaks in the Vacuum Booster? That will make it hard to apply but the brakes will still work.

^^^ Did you install your own master cylinder? Bench bleeding is essential. If you do not know how, take it to a repair shop, and have them do it. It is not overly expensive.

with the brake light on you have a leak. pedal to floor leak or master .

high hard pedal booster.

with pressure on the brake pedal if it continues to drop its a leak. if it drops to floor fast then its the master cylinder.

if you can bleed the brakes then it must be braking.

how did you get to this point ? why did you replace the master cylinder ?

bleed the master before install is required.

if you used the wrong/bad brake fluid you will not have any braking. if this is what occurred then you will have to replace every thing and wash out the brake lines.

Bench Bled the master before install.

as soon as it is above 0 degrees outside (-20 now) I'm going to bleed all 4 brakes again and lay cardboard down to check for any new leaks. Will report back afterwards.
