So Last month I replaced my oil pan with a higher capacity one and one that had and oil return fitting welded on already. I noticed before I replaced the oilpan that I had a leak somewhere because the side of the pan was wet. I assumed it was leaking from the pan gasket and it was getting replaced any anyway so no biggie. When I dropped the pan I discovered that my melling oil pump had no pickup screen attached to it. The screen was stting in the oilpan. I stuck the pick up tube back in and shoved the new pan up bolted it all back up... Then I decided to look through the drain plug hole to see if the pick up screen was sitting in the right place... :mad: The f'ing pickup screen got caght between the oil pan baffle and the windage tray the was no way I could leave it like that. I had to take everything apart AGAIN after just fighting with it to reinstall that freaking pick up tube the right way. :mad:

After it was all said and done. I drove it home and The pick up tube fell off again!!! The right thing to do would of been to tack the tube onto the pump but the mig welder at work was INOP...

Everytime I woulda hit the brake hard my oil pressure would drop... I can't have that!!! I ordered a new oilpump from summit with the bolt on pickup tube and intsalled it last week. Its amazing how evrything came apart the third time around... I was done in like 3 hours compared to like 8 hours the first time (doin it twice the first time)...

But wait theres more!!!

Part 2:

Since I did the whole oilpan fiasco happen about a month ago. And sprayed everything down with brake cleaner to get all the excess oil off. I expected to see dry engine. I was looking at everything under there and I could swear the oil was coming from the head gasket. I was getting a bit fustrated to say the least... I poured some dye into my engine oil and drove the car home from work. When I got home I checked for the leak with a UV penlight (best thing ever made!!!). It turns out the my car is leaking from the back of the intake and the oil pressure switch fitting. The entire tranny bellhousing lit up like a christmas tree from the dye. Its leakng pretty badly. Tonight I'm gonna replace the intake gasket. I also see a little seapage from the water drive. But that will be for next month's repair...

Well I fixed the intake leak... At least I hope I did. Drove her home from my buddy's shop and checked it to see if I saw anything. So far so good. But I did discover another leak. The shaft seal for the water pump is leaking too. So that will be next...

Dam! That was a quick fix there Eddie. Tell me you let that rear silicone cure up good. I know you know better.

I futzed around cleaning all the carbon out of mine for 1/2 a day when I had it off. Also re-built the throttle body.

ive done intakes on probably 15 lt1 jobs apart from building the engine as in IN CAR that didnt wait 24 hours.


Also done many 3.1 intakes that never waited on either.

The 24 hour rule is a good advice. Just like disconnecting the neg cable before changing your oil :) so says the manual


HOWEVER its really not needed and never caused a comeback for me... EVER

Yeah I couldnt wait 24 hours. I used this silicone called the right stuff from permatex on mine. Its like a can of cheesewiz. It freakin cost me 18.00 but I know the stuff is really good. When it dries up it turns into rubber. Hopefully I wont have a leak again I've done a few intakes myself and never had an issue, but ofcourse my car like to be difficult...

Dern Eddie! That is alot of work in a couple of days. Sounds like the Fastwood is back and ready for the "PSSSSSHHHTTTTT" ;)

So Eddie, I was scoping out why you had zoomed in on the chambers (which look dam clean BTW), and all I can figure is to flag the chewed gasket bead on #2. Any significance there? It just seems like an odd place for that kind of blemish.

I can't help it. Why is it all the guys from NY always look like, "Honest officer, they all just fell off a truck. No, neither of us is carrying, sir."

No reason for the pic. Just to show off the portwork on my LE2's.

So what your trying to say is that the trunk of my car was full HD DVD players? C'mon were all crooks. We just play them on the forum... (Call me if you need a DVD player.. ;) )
