Well I liked my old rims that I had but I decided to try something different out. I got a bug in my ass after I got an extremely good deal on a set of Baer brakes, but they weren't for an Imp of Caprice, so after talking with Baer (the secret society that WILL not give you any information), I decided to sell the kit, which I am hoping it will be gone here rather quickly, after talking with Tobin @ Kore3 about it.

Anyway, I was checking out different wheels didn't know what I wanted, but I did want to do a big brake set, so I found a set of calipers off a 2010 grand sport that had rolled off a truck at freeway speed. I got them for a VERY good price. One has some marks on it from the accident, but oh well, nothing a little touch up can't take care off.

So then I decided I would just go with the Z06 theme on my car, I could get the wheels pretty cheap, yeah I would have to run spacers, but who cares really, if they are designed right, there should be no problems with them. I bought a pair of spacers from Alex @ PCM performance he had laying around from Fred Goeske @ wheeladpaters.com. Anyway I knew these were made right, they are 3 inch adapters, but it would give me leeway if I had to cut them down at all. You will see why here in a second.

So after scouring the C6 forums, I located a set of wheels, chrome, from an 09 Z06, 18X9.5 in the front and 19X12 in the rear. After talking with the gentleman selling them, he wanted to part with the Goodyear supercar tires as well, with 900 miles on them. I got them at a steal.

Anyway I don't have the front mocked up yet as I want to get the brakes done then dink with the wheels and tires and make sure all the measurements are the same.

Here are the brakes. 6 piston front 4 piston rear, I will be using most of Tobin's stuff to complete the installation..

Here is a shot of the front calipers going on, same as the Z06 just in silver instead of red.

Rear tire size

Here is the rear wheel mocked up with the 3 inch spacer, you will see that there is plenty of room from frame to tire, I am going to cut 1/2 inch off the spacer to start, if I don't like how it sits in the fender I will notch the frame and bring it under further. I was pretty afraid as I didn't know if I would like them or not, but I think that they are going to come out pretty good.

Picture is deceiving but there is about 3/4 of inch of space in there.

How it hangs out right now

Looks great man!!!love the new setup, brakes are just awesome...hell of a job...
Thanks man I appreciate, not totally complete yet, but almost. I have a slight moosh to the pedal for the brakes yet, but the whole system besides the brake booster is new, so probably a little air bubble still in there considering the system was completely dry.

I decided last night that I am going to get a spacer for the front between 1 inch to 1.2 inches. I would like to get it around 1 inch I think, but I would have to trim the wheel studs, not a huge deal. I will have to take a shot at the front of the car looking down and you will be able to see what I am talking about. With a 2 inch unit up there, it is too far out. I will have to see if I can make a 1 inch spacer/adapter work, as I may run into some interference with the hub and the new wheel if it is that shallow, 1.3 inch spacer I wouldn't have to trim the studs and I think that it would think that it would be ok, but I would like to have a little more wiggle room.

Let me show you some calculations so that you can see where I came up with these numbers from.

The front rims are 18X9.5 inches wide with 40MM offset or 6.8 inches of backspacing. A factory SS rim is 17X8.5 with 5.05 ish backspacing. Now with the SS rim it is sucked into the fender a bit and you can come out with it some more, if I wanted to stay with the SS look then I would need to hover around 6 inches of backspacing, so I would need a .8 inch spacer/adapter, or 1 inch as they don't make an adapter that shallow. But generally speaking I really think that the front would look perfect if I stayed around the 5.5 inches of backspacing, this will make the stance .5 an inch wider than a stock SS, so this means I would want a 1.3 inch spacer. But I am hovering around getting a pair made for the front as shallow as I can go without trimming the studs. So I think that I can get away with 1.2 inchers in the front as there are reliefs on the bad side of the wheel.

For the back they are 19X12's with 56MM offset or 8.8 inches of backspacing. I know that with the narrowing that I did on the frame I can accommodate, 7.3 or 7.4 inches of backspacing, I would be able to so 8 inches of backspace if I had an SS rear in the car, but I have a 9C1 in there, so I lose .625 on either side.

With the 2 inch spacers that I have on there now to see where I am at, that gives me 6.8 inches of backspacing and the outer lip of the wheel, if I hit a dip hard would most likely kiss the fender. So I am thinking I am going to go with a 1.8 inch spacer/adapter in the rear, this will make my backspacing 7 inches and it should center the wheel and tire right in the center of the fenderwell.

Got it, clear as mud right LOL

.... The front I just put in the ZQ8 bumpstops, and I trimmed off the recommended 1/4 of an inch, but it is riding pretty heavy on the bumpstop with just a 1/4 of an inch cut out.....
I'm riding on about .75" of the ZQ8's now. i forget how much I cut off, but the entire top cone part has been removed. The frame just barley touches/rests on the tops of them now and there's very slight compression/bulge showing on their sides. I'm very pleased with the ride feel. Front end is not too bouncy and still stiff enough, but with good cushion to absorb road/bump shocks. I've also got bilstein sport shocks and slightly cut ST springs. Front sits at 25.5" to apex of wheel well lip. i might switch over to drop spindles. We'll see.

Mike:

Maybe look at a simple spacer, not an adapter. ARP 7703 wheel studs a 12x1.5 and ~1.1" longer than stock. Takes the same diameter on the knurl, though they are a tight fit (spec is on the high side of the tolerance). I just picked up a set for the 9c1 axle I just put in my 79 last weekend. If you are hovering in the 1" range, this is a good option.
Yeah that would work, if I didnt' have to change the bolt circle, 5 on 5 to 5 on 4.75, in lies the dilemma, I think that I have it all figured out. Thanks for the idea, would of done it that way if I didn't have to change the bolt circle.
Ok you guys wanted pics. :)

Tobin's Hubs are art for sure
Mike,

You could have KORE3 make a special hub with dual patterns and sell these. The option to use a spacer, as Beertestr suggests, is a good one--and I've already shown you what I do. Getting a stud that's long enough is the issue, in the end--and I'd much rather use a 1/2" or 14mm stud in that situation.
No that is a good call Bill for sure, I will get a hold of Tobin and see what his timeline would be to make custom ones, I know that he has been swamped. Thanks again for the advice I will see what I can come up with on this. I still have the pictures that you sent me to use.
Well here you go, I had to set it on the ground just so you guys could see LOL, well ok I wanted to as well :)

Still need to get the right spacers for the front at least, the rears are close, but I maybe bring them in .2-.3 of an inch, front definitely needs .7 to .8 taken out of them.

Mind the mess, so much going on at once, my shop is a pig sty, but oh well. I will shoot more when I get it outside and stuff, but it isn't running at the moment and I think that I have to bleed the brakes one more time, there is a little moosh is the pedal still, I will get it, parking brakes work like a champ. :)

There you go more later.
This beast is just start D*** Hardness. Kept up the work MIKE
I like it Mike, good job
Yeaa im totally in love.
Nice work. I'm right behind you on the rear wheel work. I really like your car paint scheme and two-tone colors.
Thanks fellas, there are better pics of it outside here http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=262572 , figured I would start a new thread so people can see the finished product in the beginning of the thread instead of the end. :)
Every time I see your car it looks better! I love beefy meats on a big B.
Watcha gonna do with your widened wheels? I'm interested.

Dave
Hey Dave, they are gone, sold them sometime ago
Im deff starting to understand the spacer/ adaptor consept after doing much research thx for the help. One more question the rear rims came with new tires they are 295/35/19 will that tire be to big I see u have 30 for height.
Shouldn't be.
As Firewood stated you should be fine with that tire.
On another note I am changing tire sizes this year, going bigger :)
Thx guys appreciate the help will post pics when done.
