Tires have an expiration date and I don't believe its 17 year old.Do ur self and other motorists a favor and get new tires.

I wouldn't be caught dead with tires on my car over 6 years old, unless it could somehow be proven beyond any shadow of any doubt that the tires never saw any sunlight.
(Proven to an absolute certainty, 10 years, tops.)
Even without sunlight, rubber ages just sitting there. Sunlight significantly accelerates the aging process.
I wouldn't even consider them as spares.

As everyone else is saying, waaaaay beyond their usable SAFE life.
But this got me thinking about my spare tire. It's never been used since I've had the car in 1996, but it's damn near 20 years old now. It may be time to look for a replacement.
. Maybe even a 17"er to match the other 4.....

I believe Goodrich recently made a run of the OEM tires. Someone on here has an in with them. You may still be able to get a brand new set. Check with your tire store.

Wow, an SS with that little mileage shouldn't be a DD! Those original wheels and tires should come off pronto and be preserved. Everyone's right, they're dangerous when they're that old and have been used that little, but certainly don't scrap them: original tires are one of those awesome things that can set apart a car at shows and whatnot (that's really what a 30,000 mile SS should be used for!).
That seems a little conservative for a garage-kept car, assuming proper inflation and no winter usage. Sure, not for autocrossing, maybe, but 10 years should be easy for a set of low-mileage, well-stored rubber.
Tire companies get a bit conservative because they want you to buy new tires

I had a pair of those G force tires installed in 01 or something and I just trashed them a couple years ago. I will tell you those tires last a freakin long time.
BUT
Im not telling you to keep them I would still replace my tires if I was you.
But I would buy that same brand but they don't make that model anymore.

As long as they hold air and support the car, they'd be great show tires for a concourse vehicle.

A vehicle that gets towed to shows, sure!
Even though my SS is stored in the garage, and has been since new, I just picked up a new set of the last BFG run of tires. The car only has 7,200 miles on it, but I was concerned about driving high speeds on tires made in 1995.
Get peace of mind and get new tires. I wanted to get new ones on the car before my son starts driving it.

my "spare" tire on all of my cars is the "original;"...except the one in the SS.
years ago there was a class action suit, which I opted "in" for, that was won for the plaintiffs. It said GM stated on the window sticker of the "Impala SS" that it came with a "full size" spare. Compared to the size of the tires on the car (255/50 x 17) the spare was not. It was a standard 15" tire found on Caprice, Roadmaster B-Bodys. The settlement was $250.
So I got a 17" SS rim for $125 (new at the time) and a new 255/50 x 17 tire
The spare in the B-body is in the trunk and covered so it should be "useable" longer than one on the car or exposed to sunlight. IMHO "spare" tires should be used short term to replace a flat and put back as a spare once that tire is fixed or replaced....unless it is included as a "5 tire" rotation practice.
To the OP's issue with original tires.....they have expired in terms of their performance rating and should be replaced if driving on public roads for the safety of the occupants and others on the road.
I got a very low mileage but 7 year old Toyota from a family member I gave to my daughter when she went to college. Tires were original and had a lot of "tread" left. There were "cracks (small)" in the tires and I didn't think much of them. Car was parked outside its entire life. My daughter got a flat (puncture) and had it fixed at a local tire repair near her college. A week later she text me and says "my tire has a bulge in it (with a pic)"......I bought 4 new tires. Soooo tires do "expire" before the tread is gone if older than 7 years....so 17+ year old tires, even garaged, IMHO have degraded beyond their safe operating ability
