I think I had something written up about this way back, but I'll give you the skinny on the problem I had. The charcoal in the canister breaks down and plugs up the evap solenoid. That solenoid in on top of the pass side head, very easy to get to. You dont need to replace it necessarily. I think I used a 9volt battery, but possibly 12v source, actuate the thing and tap and blow the charcoal out. I put a lawn mower fuel filter ahead of it to catch any new crumbs.

Edit: also bad hoses can cause the problem. There is so much rot after all these years. Note: handling them will leave indelible stains on your skin, wear gloves.
