www.rockauto.com should, or your favorite parts store. Steering box--there are lots of threads about better replacement boxes.

I was just looking at that I see a lot of different choices sport suspension heavy duty brakes I don’t know what I have
Read your SPID sticker on the inside of your trunklid and it'll tell you which braking options you have. Or, measure your existing cables and match them up using the measuring guides on Rock Auto.
Are all the steering boxes interchangeable?
Are all the steering boxes interchangeable?
Technically, yes.
However, your Impala SS calls for 12.7to1 ratio, which I think calculates to 3.0x turns lock-to-lock.
Avoid the 14to1 & 17to1 steering gearboxes. You want steering boxes for 9C1 or SS, at minimum.

As for steering feel / assist, I know little about that, except that you likely don't need any more assist than OE, and may do well to use somewhat less assist than OE, subject to your tastes.
Only if they come with the pitman arm
Good discussion Here of rebuild and new.

I would have sent my box to LEE. Which is exactly what I did.

No. The police (9C1) boxes have a different spline for the pitman arm. It is worth checking the spline count before ordering as someone could have swapped in a 9C1 box.. This just happened to someone.

A new box choice Borgeson 800130.

Since circumstances have forced you to settle,
BBB Industries 5030142 for $150.

Don't be surprised if you wind up dissatisfied.
Keep your steering box to be rebuilt.

Keep your steering box to be rebuilt.
If time were on your side this would be the far better option.

To be more clear.

If the OP has a original to the car box it should be saved for a later rebuild.

Parts store's rebuilds can be the wrong ratio, wrong end of travel stops, and wrong torsion rod resulting in too much/too little steering effort required. This assumes they function properly.

The easiest way to ensure one gets the specific box for a specific car is to have the one from the car checked for correct specifications (no tire rub with stock tires etc) then have it rebuilt.

What number am I looking at to check what code box I have
Font Automotive lighting Automotive exterior Gas Automotive tire

RPO N40 = HYDRAULIC NON-VARIABLE STEERING
combined with
RPO FE4 = SPECIAL RIDE & HANDLING SUSPENSION SYSTEM
plus
Go and check the answer to this question:
How may turns lock-to-lock? Bet it's UNDER 3.1.
Then check the following:
... have the one from the car checked for correct specifications (no tire rub with stock tires etc), then have it rebuilt.
Even if you are not having yours rebuilt, you should know yours well enough that when you buy the RockAuto one, you're immediately sure about whether or not the new steering gearbox is 'the one'.

If it is not, then have your original steering gearbox rebuilt by a serious rebuilder instead of RockAuto's lowest bidder.
WX3 =Impala
JB9 =standard front brakes (not police taxi)
JL9 =standard rear disk.

If you are asking about the steering box it is defined by the WX3 Impala order. A N40 code is power steering and is on all cars. A Impala is a 12:1 ratio linear box.

Lock to lock turns checking can get confusing with non stock tires rubbing before lock.
A N40 code is power steering and is on all cars.
Again,
Anyone who can find a more comprehensive listing, please, update the rest of us?

Every B- & D-car has power steering.
However, some B- & D-cars have variable ratio power steering. NOT WX3 or WX8 or 9C1.
WXs & 9C1s have 12.7to1 NON-variable ratio steering boxes, yes.
