This thread is scaring me....so from what I've read is I get the min and max resistor and solder em together. Then I splice them into wiring?? My car is fine at the moment but everyone warns me about this more than the Opti.

What about the kits they sell on eBay. I know what number the chip is on my key. Thanks!!!

I've seen PassKey II bypasses from some Corvette catalogs as well, provided you know which resistor is required.

Ok fellas need some help. My key is number 11 and I used the chart from the first page to see the values. The value is 4750 so I got a 100ohm and a 4.7k one. Will this work??

When I was changing my wiper switch in the column I accidentally broke the wires. So I felt it was time to install the resistor. I installed it and the car cranks but the light stays on. I disconnected the battery for a while to see if it would reset but that didn't work. Has anyone else had this issue?

The light will stay on for 5 minutes weather you disconnect the battery or not. You need to give it it's time to reset. I gave in an just got a VATS bypass kit.

What were your results with that vats bypass kit. I bought one months ago but couldn't figure out out so my car has just been sitting. I just ordered a reprogrammed pcm to get rid of the vats. Hopefully the instructions are better than that vats bypass and I can finally start my car.

It worked and did its job. You should be good to go with a reflashed PCM. Just plug it and go. I will be getting a reflashed PCM too to avoid and possible failure of the VATS kit. I'm tired of dealing with it.

I've been driving it for a couple of days now. The light is still always on.

Yes If you bypass it the car can still be driven but the light can remain on for an indefinite time. This is what happened to me when I bypassed it the first time with resistors. But sense I did the bypass kit the light stays off.

The 5 minute thing I was refuring to was if it wasn't bypassed. That's the longest I have timed it to stay on before it resets itself and you can retry to start the car.

I received the pcm last week and installed it and the car still will not start. it cranks but something else is not letting it start. this car is going to the shop ASAP.
I just had the same problem of it cranking but not starting. I replaced the whole opti and now it starts and runs perfectly. I'm willing to bet that's your problem. You can get the recommended ACDelco opti for $450 or a lifetime warranty opti from Autozones or O'Reillys for $120-$250. It's your call. Just make sure you replace the opti seal on the timing cover and water pump gasket. Mine came in a timing cover seal/gasket kit for $10. You will also need 2 gallons of coolant. Mechanic will charge about $1000-$1500 depending on the price of the opti to replace it. If your a handing man I suggest you replace it yourself for alot cheaper. You will need a E4 bit for the opti cap and a T8 bit for the rotor. 3/8 socket for the 3 opti bolts. 14mm extended socket for the water pump. 10mm socket for the air pump if you still have it and 15mm socket for the air pump bracket. 16mm socket for the crank pulley/harmonic balancer pulley. And a harmonic balancer puller. You can rent one from autozone for free. 13mm socket for the belt tensioner pulley

Why are you pulling the balancer hub?

Wow. Ok. An opti is short for optispark aka distributor. It's just what GM calls it for these cars.

So how did it go? Car up and runny yet?
oh yeah, its running now. I got the PCM reprogrammed so that the VATS was taken out and after that found out that they fuel pump sending unit was bad. I have a new fuel pump sending unit and no VATS and now hopefully the car will be good for at least another 48k miles. thanks everybody for all of your help.

Mine's starting to act up, let it sit for a couple of min., wiggled the ignition and started back up & light went out. I'm going to head this one off at the pass! I miss my 9C1!
