Well, a potential trip canceling complication has come up for the Vegas Nationals for me. A friend's son is getting married and they currently have a site reserved (and nonrefundable deposit paid) for June 26th. While none of us would have any heartburn with Lisa and me skipping the wedding, they have asked me to officiate the ceremony for them. Yes, I'm an ordained minister - have been for about 10 years. So, they are going to see if they can get it moved a week or two, but if not, I shan't be attending the Vegas Nationals.

Bummer...

Hey. My g/f & I decided to get married next year.
My logic:
1. She is a teacher, it must be in summer.
2. We want a cheap wedding, someplace that does a lot of them.
3. We want a small wedding, lets go away somewhere.
4. We want a place where we don't have to go elsewhere for the honeymoon.
5. I want a place where I can have a good bachelor party.

Logical solution - VEGAS BABY!!!

Still not sure if the Nationals will be the bachelor party or the honeymoon phase, but we have come to one decision.

Wife.gov and I got married in Vegas in 97. Told all the guests that it was in Vegas and the date, then told them to let us know what hotel they were going to stay in. Called them all the day before and told them what time to be in front of their hotel to be picked up. We had chartered a bus and I rode around Vegas picking up guests while she changed and met us at A Little White Chapel in the SS with the trunk loaded with thee stuff for the reception. We got married on the bus then told the driver to take the guests on a little tour and be at the hall we rented (Unitarian Universalist church) in an hour. We drove up there with a couple of friends in the back seat, set up the stuff we had picked up at Costco the day before (including the cakes) and had the reception there. After the reception, the bus took everyone back to their hotels. A good time was had by all, we didn't have to entertain relatives from out of town, and the whole thing cost us less than $1200 (not including the trip, which we sould have done anyway.)

The kids who want me to wed them have already put down a $600 deposit on the place they want to get hitched. They are trying to pare the guest list down from 250 so they can afford to feed them at a sit-down reception. Oh well, it's their money or credit cards...

I'm a big fan of Vegas for weddings. Pretty much you can do it any way you want, from darn near free at the courthouse (which, BTW, sells licenses 24 hours a day...) to something that would break Donald Trump.

Do it.

Well, they decided that they would go with someone else so I could go to Vegas. :D :D
I'll have to give those two kids a really good present!!!

Greenbay, want me to check the Nevada laws and see if I can officiate for you? You could do the deed at the park and walk down an aisle lined with Impalas. ;)

BTW, there's a Hooters at the Sunset Station for the bachelor party.

Thanks SSpiffy,

Well, my fiance and I have been talking, and now, we are having to move the date up. She wants to teach summer school for the additional money to help pay for the trip, and that starts on Jun 20, so no trip for me to the Nationals.

But, I think I will still try to sneak in a little time to visit Sam and Seth out at their shop just to see all the preparations for the show. :D

I told her, that if I miss this one, we are definitely going to the Nationals in 2005, wherever they are. ;)

I did a bit of research into the Nevada laws anyway. I could potentially do the service for anyone who is interested, but can do only a few a year (I think 6) and would have to go to the courthouse with the couple when they get their license. The Little White Chapel sounds like a better idea if you want to get married in Vegas. That's where we did it, though we were on a bus with family and friends rather than in the Impala. :D
