Irrelevant back story: I traded a vehicle to a friend awhile back, telling him the one thing I wanted to keep from it was the (4) door speakers. He removed the speakers and put them in his storage unit until I picked them up the other day. Well... One speaker from each pair is significantly damaged, leaving me without a usable pair of speakers. I'm still not sure how to handle the situation with my friend, but, for now I'm just focused on remedying this problem.

The first pair are Polk DB+ 652. One of the tweeters has been knocked loose. In addition, there is a small tear at the base of where the tweeter mounts to the rest of the speaker. This tear doesn't seem to have any real play in it. The tweeter itself wobbles. Maybe this one can be fixed with glue?

The second pair are JBL Harman CLUB 6520. One of these has damage to the foam surround. It seems replacing the foam is a pretty straight forward repair, at least for some speakers. Is that going to be realistic in this case?

Definitely open to recommendations as far as where to buy parts, etc.

.....significantly damaged....
In cases of this basic nature I often do a quick estimate of the time, cost and expected quality of results of repair, against the original cost amortized over time and accumulated amount of use. For what I see the cost of a new set of each of those currently is I'd be tilting heavy to simply feeding your car (and ears) new ones.

Not that I wasn't above repairing the cracked original ones 50 years ago in my '66 Chevelle with tissue paper and fingernail polish. ;) Sometimes I'll take the repair route for recreational therapy and simplyspeakers.com is a good start.

Yeah. It looks like $90 for the Polk on crutchfield, and the JBL are discontinued, but Google has them at $50.

There's a part of me that wants to learn how to do it. I considered repairing them and then using them for some sort of other application besides my car. Garage maybe? I dunno.

I found the same. Now the garage. Now that right there is what I'd call the perfect definition of repurposing, as it's not close to a concert hall environment. Ooo, but there's building/buying all those enclosures - poo.

I would just mount them in the walls. Or maybe even old kitchen cabinets.

On one of my first cars I once had a tear in that location on a set of 12’s and I used a bicycle tire patch and some silicone I had lying around. Held up decently at the time when my funds were short!
You mean the foam around the perimeter?

I’m not sure about using on foam type. I couldn’t tell from your pic but mine were almost some kind of rubber. I had cut a tire patch to fit on the outside and used the glue that came with it to attach and I was also able to smear a thin layer on the backside. It held up for a year or two.

Maybe foam isn't the right word. It's probably more like rubber.

If so you should be ok with that. It’s been a long time since I did that but I do remember now that I ended up adding another patch on top, the first patch developed pinholes after awhile so added one more on top. I’d imagine subs would flex more then door speakers. Hope it helps, I’m all for saving good old speakers to if I can, I’m currently using Cerwin vegas that are probly older then me.

Really who cares how old ? We still like our rides. Maybe we can bring back the turntable record player instead of the radio..
Astoundingly, the number of people who have a turntable in their car is far greater than zero.

Talk about reasons to use air suspension.

A lot of us are older than you think.

96Black, blew up your 4 year old speakers ?
Did you have your Muntz 4 track on kill??
Yes. Regrettably, or fortunately, I failed to mature long ago. And no, it was an 8-track but I did start my hearing loss in earnest quite early. But I helped the next door neighbor install a 4-track in the '60 Impala family hand-me-down immediately after he got his license. I say helped but I was 15 and just catching on to real car stuff. I remember he'd have to spend an hour getting the tapes cued up to the best songs every time he headed out cruising for girls.
It was only a few months later he bought a '61 Fairlane for almost nothing, and I actually helped install a new 8-track in that one.
