Problems with CD player....

Ok... My FW has the CD and tape radio. 9 times out of 10 the Cd gets spit out every time I start the car. And if it doesn't spit out the CD, the radio just clicks and clicks like it's trying to read it. I can't get it to eject when it's doing that. And I got an error code yesterday - E22, I think. I've just given up and have stopped trying to use it. I seems to work fine if I have the car on and then put in the CD. It plays ok then. The trouble just seems to be when I start the car and there is a CD in the player. And I have tried a couple different Cd's that work fine in other players... I'd really like to keep this radio if I could, because I don't have the money to spend on an aftermarket unit now with the Holidays and everything... Please help!

Oh, and Merry Christmas everybody!

TIA!

Hey Bill,

Forgive me if this has already been tried but I would suggest running a CD lens cleaner in the system. The E22 error does indicate a problem reading the CD.

If that doesn't work, go ahead and take the unit out and clean the lens manually. The case on the head unit comes apart pretty easily.

Thanks Bill, I planned on picking up one of those good lense cleaner disks on the way home today.

Hopefully that takes care of it!

Hope you had a great Christmas! :D

I tried one of those cleaning disks, and it looks like it may have done the trick! It's only spit the CD out at me once since, and hasn't in two days. We'll see if it keeps working ok.

Good thing too, cuz I haven't been able to find a dash kit to install a regular DIN radio into the double DIN opening.

Scrapyard... Did you install an aftermarket head unit in yours? What kind? Where'dya get the kit?

Thanks again!

I had bought one when I got the car but couldn't get the thing to fit. I asked a bunch of pepole at shops how it worked and no one had a clue. After about a week I decided to trace the antena wire to the reciver and found it in the trunk. After that I said screw it and returned it for a 12 disk changer. I am thinking about going aftermarket now that I've seen it in Bill's car though. Although I would realy like an in dash monitor. The kind that slides out of the dash. I want to hook up a DVD player to it. Just for gigles sake. I got bourd driving cross country last time and realy wanted to watch Sordfish. Or at least listen to it.
