You are feeling good..Due to intrest spilling from the other frame nothing threads I'm buming this back to the top
Skill and tools? Hell, the reason I did this on leave was to do it with a borrowed plasma cutter in my uncle's garage with all his gear. I was still living in an apartment at the time. And you're giving me way too much credit for skill. I really didn't know what I was getting into. I just got lucky I figured it out. I mean really... I'm a mechanic in the Army. cwm3 That teaches everything at an 8th grade level. So everybody can do it.Nice work, man. I feel ya on the hours thing. Why do we do this? I'm jealous you have the skill and tools to do this mod. I paid $1200 for a local shop to do it in a week. But now you've confirmed for me it was $ well spent. Would like to see some shots of clearance between tires and notched frame when you get some time. What size tires?
I would just like to point out, though I am not a "professional", It took me about 38 man hours to do this. I did have to wait on the welder to cool down every now and again though. Also, I had to grind the **** out of the calipers for the wheels.hey now,
protools4 thanks for the right up, you may have noticed that i am putting together a mini tub / frame notching thread that i hope will have every bit of info on the subject.
i think i am sold on the way unique did it. his way seems the simplest to me.
if you would, please give a break down of the time spent at Sire Fabrication. what i mean is about how long did it take unique to section out the old piece of frame, then how long to cut out the 4 main pieces to get welded back in then weld them in and then the small end cap pieces as well?
what i am trying to do is estimate how long a professinol would take for a job like that. i live way to far away or i would let unique do it, so i am thinking of hiring a welder with his service truck come out to my place and do it.
thanks for your time.

20 hours is right on par with what it takes for us.I would just like to point out, though I am not a "professional", It took me about 38 man hours to do this. I did have to wait on the welder to cool down every now and again though. Also, I had to grind the **** out of the calipers for the wheels.
I'd say if I did this again, just the frame notch, with a plas and a MIG welder that worked good, 20 hours would be about right.
