For our wagon, the problem wasn't the switch, but that the door wasn't quite latching.

The FSM has an excellent explanation of how to realign the door. After I had gone through it, I didn't have to slam the door to get the lights to turn off.

Mine has a bit of a hard time latching/ swinging out. Tips for those of us without a FSM?

Sorry, but no. The FSM has a ten-page procedure that you have to do in order. There don't seem to be any shortcuts.
