just start cuttin with a dremel, cut carpet to match the hole and fabricate something to make it look good, you saw mine right, it aint hard there is already a starting point hole in there for you. whatever size design/logo/shape you want it to be, and i just made mine from wood so i can cover it with anything moldable.

First decide how big you want it.
Second get a cut off wheel or a grinder with a nice strong cutting wheel.
Cut front underneth if you can, most of it you can. I also had a jig saw handy but broke 2 blades using that.
Smooth edges with either a grinder or a file
Put rear carpet back in
Mark from underneath where the hole is
Cut hole in carpeted piece
Get some MDF and either cut a design or go basic.
Wrap in your choice of fabric
And screw it in from underneath. You dont have to screw it to the deck just to the carpeted piece.
I made a real basic one till I can do a full fiberglass rear deck

Good Luck and post some pics when done
Later

I'd "ghetto mock it" with cardboard before cutting in to anything. Take the rear deck carpeting and a dryer or a fridge cardboard and draw out the pattern. You'll need to transfer all the openings on the cardboard (cut it out) so you won't run in to superises (like seatbelt strap locations or where the 6X9's used to live). Then use the cardboard as a template and see if you'll run in to trouble.

If there is no problem then cut the metal. I'd go with a MDF and sound deadners to make it a flat fitting and nice platform. One of these day's I'll redo the system I'm thinking pair of 10" free airs (if they still make those
) next to the 6X9's. I'm going deaf (or I'm either ignoring people or I have selective hearing
) so I don't need to further my condition.

i dont have a back dach, i mean the carpit is no longer there....i will pop some pictures tomorrow and post them, there is nothing important in the metal of the back dash like a main ground or power wires running... or piece of the frame.
