I found an 80 Impala Wagon complete drum to drum rear end that is an 8 3/4 3:23 posi that I would like to put into my 96 Caprice Wagon. I assume the widths are the same ( about 3 inches wider than the sedans. Is the ABS on the 96 work with the backing plates and are the plates interchangable with the 96's? What other glitches are there? Also, the 80 has a spring type posi. Which is the strongest, the spring or cone type? Thanks, Ted

good luck
the ABS relluctor mounts on the pinnion shaft inside the carrier.
I doubt that that car would have the provision for it
Basically whatever you were trying to save on axles or whatnot you lost due to fact they would have to dissasamble the member to put in the relluctor in.

BTW I figure the stock posi is shot
When I blew the rear end in my '89 I replaced it with a '91 G80 unit which had 120K on it. Guess what - posi was shot.

Thanks, I am going to pass on it. My buddy bought it to put into his 77 caprice not realizing the wagon rear is wider. Ted
