Hey guys I have a 1996 Impala SS with complete Bolt ons (tri y headers, 52mm tb, spin tech headers back, torqhead 24x coil pack, t56, 4:10, Danny's shaft and all Hotchkiss suspensions) only thing I don't have is arms and coilovers. I had it on the dyno last week she made 261whp and 417ftq. So that car has 210000km on her runs great had is alot of fun.

So I'm thinking about putting a rear mount twin turbo kit on it. I will be makeing the kit. What do you guys think I should do it with the high km or do a rebuild? I'm really happy with he car now but just want a little more power. My only thing is I dont have money for both, I can build the kit for $5000 cad and its costing me about 7000cad to have kralwin build me a motor. It really sucks being in Canada because it's hard to find a really good lt1 builder. I will run no more then 7psi on the motor and guys I understand these motors are not made for boot.

If any turbos guys can give me some tips that would be great. Also if anyone in Ontario Canada is looking for a shop to tune your impala or camaro that has a torqhead 24x coil setup give my buddy jesse at JLS tuning and performance he is a great guy and a LS specialist.

Thanks Jay

I built my budget 355 for around $5k US and it makes close to 400rwhp. Rear mounts would be cool but a decent rebuild will be way more reliable.

Build the turbo kit, make sure it's tuned properly and with good fuel injectors, and then don't go past 7psi and don't stay in boost too long and you'll be fine.

I like the sounds on that. Tuning is not a problem. So what size of turbos do you guys thing I should go and injectors? I'll be doing no intercooler just a water meth kit. I have a walbro 255 pump and racetronix wiring kit.

I'd get a Y pipe from a 4.3 L caprice and run a single rear mount turbo.
Run the outlet side of the turbo back up where the other side exhaust pipe would go.
Keep it stupid simple (KISS)

I like Blue Wail's idea actually, but I think any rear mount turbo would be a big hassle with oil lines and such.

There's lots of room in the engine compartment for a turbo (or two) and with <7 psi boost, you won't get a lot of value out of an intercooler so that makes the plumbing easy.

Twin turbo sounds cool when you say it, but at this power level, there's nothing that two smaller turbos can do that a single can't do better and less complicated.

Open the hood. Look down. Now with all that space, why the hell would you home-brew a rear mount? Want more space? Move the battery to the trunk and ditch or move the ABS and you now have two ideal locations for turbos.

Hey guy I understand there a lot of room under the hood but I want to pop the hood and see turbos. Also I have 80% for the rear mount kit just missing turbos and injectors. I would like to keep the stock look and heat away from under the hood.

I know single turbo will be just as good or better but I'm try to make it in away that if someone would like a kit they can just bolt it on with even a stock exhaust or aftermarket. This will be something I will sale if someone want it. I'll be doing maybe a couple kits a year in my free time.

I really love these cars I have three of them and I'm always willing to help people out that own these cars.i have a 94 winter car 96 summer daily and a 96 track car. The track car is fully gouged and will be getting a ls with twins. This is why I would like to just keep my summer with just rear twins on 7psi maybe a little more if I rebuils the motor later on.

Thanks for the info

261hp and 417lb-ft? That sounds like a ton of torque for such low horsepower. Stock cam / rockers / intake?

I'm not sure I'd trust any of the values below the 55mph mark on those charts. Looks like the throttle tip in at the start of the pull was driving some erroneous starting values which tapered down before you really got into the meat of the pull.

I'm reading a picture of a very tight scaled graph off my phone and seeing closer to 300ft-lbs for a real torque value.

In any of these dyno runs, are there upshifts or downshifts, or is the entire run in 3rd gear?
