rear seat question

The trick is in undoing the seatbelts first - the seat is held in place by the same TORX head fasteners that fasten the seatbelts to the floor of the car! Once you pop those out, the seat back simply lifts up, and you're off to the races!

And those torx are T45's - go buy a GOOD (min 3/8") torx socket, 'cause you're gonna need it to bust them loose.

I do need to buy the socket so I'm just wondering is the size 45 correct. Another thread said it might be 50. Anyone know for sure? I have a 1996 Impalla SS if it helps.

yes, it's a 45 for sure. also when you undo the seat belt you only have to unbolt the bottom not the top.

Rear seat removal

I want to pull the seat to carry 4 each 6 foot x 12 inch boards for about 1200 miles.
So this is a two part question

1: Have you run for any length of time with the seat out and is there any problem with exhaust gas getting into the car. Mine is a 94 9c1, no known rust or other leaks. I have never noticed any problem with gas before and just wonder if it should be considered.

2: Have you cut the diagonal stiffeners out of the seat back support to open up the "pass through" space. I would like to carry a couple of larger items and it appears the diagonals are only for the seat back. I figure I could fabricate and install a replacement set of bolt in stiffeners out of 1/8th inch plate or similar.

its actually a t47. if they are in there really tight you are going to strip them with a t45
