Well, after 3 days of parts hunting, wrench turning, knuckle bleeding, and just plain 'ol cussin', I finally got pretty much done with my planned suspension fest.

I installed Del-a-lum lower control arm bushings, Global West front springs, Global West lower trailing arms, QA1 shocks at all fours, and a Torsen T2R.

I still have to do the Fischer Hydraulic brake lines, but when I dug into the rear end, I found I needed one new axle, so I am waiting to do both the axles and the brake lines all at the same time. I have a new set of Mosers waiting for me to get a day off, then go the new lines, pads, and a fresh flush of ATE Typ200!!

This new round of parts, teamed up with my current F-body/HA and body bushing set up is pure bliss. :D

I autocross quite frequently, and the first event of the season here was this past Sunday, the 17th. With my new mods, and them really cool Nitto 555RII Road Race tires made for one helluva day. In a field that I usually place 5th in, I took 1st that day, beating 3 of my arch enemies. 2 of which are a father/son combo on a mildly tricked out '99 Cobra convert on fresh Hoosiers and a -2.5 deg camber. The last being a pesky, but awesome lowered Xtreme truck.

One event down, 13 more to go. I'll see if I can make our Impala SS community proud!

Oh yeah!! I forgot to mention that I was helped along by a really killer Gene Bennett 6pt harness... these things rule!! :D

So, Bob,
I have to call you "sir" now!!!!

Just kidding. Can't believe you hosed the extreme truck! Just to let you know, some of the import drivers were complaining that the temp was too cold for their stickies to get sticky. Guess our added weight is good for something...... more friction/heat!

Congrats!

Now you know why I like my setup (which is pretty dang close to that) so much :D

BTW, I am installing the HAL shocks pretty soon. What shock settings did you use at the AutoX (along with what tires, and tire pressure settings)?

Also, have you run the Kumhos before? If so, wondering how they compare "back to back" with the Nittos.....

Can I use the del-a-lums in F-stock, or spring or shocks or sway bars that aren't GM stock? I've called SCCA but no return call yet. I really don't know if my borlas are ok for it. I am installing new ball joints in a few weeks & want to change the a-arm bushings while I'm in there. I guess I'll spend the extra money for the del's if legal.

No bushing changes in F-stock. And technically, they aren't legal in ESP either.....although only a big PANSY in a Mustang or Camaro would protest a 4500 lb car for them :D

As for other F-stock mods.....basically any shocks are OK. NO spring changes, and ONLY the FRONT bar can be changed (rear bar must remain stock).

On the QA1's, I'm running 6 all around. I haven't really played around w/ stiffer or mixing and matching fronts and rears.

As for the tires, when they were mounted 2 days earlier, I had them at 40 psi, it was way too cold that Sunday, so I didn't even check pressures. What ever they were, it worked.

These Nittos are the first set of "competition" tires I've had. I was sold on the new Kumho Ecsta V700 before I read in GMHTP their comparo on the Kumho vs. Nitto. For $2 more total, I went with the new kids on the block (no pun intended).

BTW, this past Sunday the 24th, I took 1st again.... 2 fer 2, 10 more to go....

I'll mention that the GMHTP tire comparo was crap.....notice whose ad is RIGHT next to the end of the article, gee....no bias there :rolleyes:. That's not to say the Nitto is a bad tire (in fact, it probably is a very GOOD tire) but the article should be taken with a B-body sized grain of salt


For my Kumho VictoRacers, I've found that on asphalt I get best results with 38 PSI in front and 36 PSI in back.

I totally agree w/ you on the article, and not just this one. The thing w/ the article, tho, is that they even said the Kumhos stuck better, it's just that they couldn't handle it once they were overheated.

So, through deduction, I figured that the added weight of the Impala over that ThunderChicken would be enough to maximize that feature of the Nittos.

So far, so good. I will be very interested in their life span, if I can make a whole season or not.
