Need to remove mine to install new radio but afraid I'll break mounting tabs. Any suggestions? Can't find one in junkyard to “practice” on.

The wood is not removable. It is heat welded to the rest of the dash face. If you try to remove the woodgrain only, you will damage it.

Remove the entire dash, and replace the radio/stereo, then reinstall the dash. There is a hidden screw under the dash at the parking brake release. You must also remove both knee bolster panels, and you should remove the glove box door to get to the screw behind the left side. There should be 6 screws into the dash pad from below. Spring clips hold the dash in place as well. They usually pull out fairly easily. Put the steering wheel in the full down position, and the shift lever in 1st gear (chock the wheels). The right side AC vent is not part of the dash front. When reassembling the glove box door, make sure it actuates the light switch in the upper left corner. The trip odometer reset button tends to get caught on the dash, so make sure you clear it when assembling.

Fred, thanks for the instructions. I was going to try removing the wood separately!! Never figured it was part of the main dash panel behind it so you kept me from breaking something. Got a restored factory CD player and want to get it in. Thank you for the fast and accurate reply.
