I’ve been searching the forum for information related to the replacement of the General Motors OEM carpet. I’ve found no fewer than ten threads about this very discussion. The only reason I’ve started another conversation is that everything I found was VERY old. Most threads were dating 13, 17 and 18 years back. I read every single line of every carpet discussion while I was simultaneously researching and cross referencing anything I could find with the Google Machine. I discovered what seemed to be a few highly recommended options, only to find websites that hadn’t been active in years. Personally I really like black carpet in a 1994-1996 Impala SS. However, I’ve kept my car completely stock for the 23 years we’ve owned it. I even used to buy the sorry BFGs these cars were originally fitted with. I’m going to post the 4 manufacturers description that I’ve condensed quite a bit. Hopefully this doesn’t break any rule or policy. Price is not what I’m concerned about. Quality is what I’m looking for. Anyone’s input or experience with any of these companies would be greatly appreciated.

# 4~CAR Motorsports

OEM approved molded carpets to ensure proper fit and appearance. Made by an actual carpet manufacturer and feature an advanced dye process to avoid fading and ensure long lasting color. The dye process is performed on the fibers prior to assembly into carpet. This ensures the best and most fade resistant color. Our carpets are cut to ensure you have ample material at the edges near the door sill plates and under the rear seats.OEM Plus Premium Cut Pile Carpet and OEM Plus Ultra Premium Carpet.

Rubber hazmat backing is an option on all of our carpets. This rubber backing was used in some factory applications (Buick Reatta, Cadillac Allante, Pontiac Trans Am, etc.) as a sound deadening and heat insulation agent. The purpose was to insulate the interior from heat and reduce exhaust and road noise in the car. This rubber backing is available on all of our carpet sets and is more economical and effective than installing Dynomat. If you have a loud exhaust system, the difference will be dramatically noticeable. Also, you will notice a substantial difference in the interior temperature in your car. We highly recommend the rubber backing, especially for those owners with performance exhaust systems.

CAR Motorsports carpet features include:

Molded to your factory floor pan for an OEM fit.

Generous trimming to ensure there is always enough at the edges.

Heavy 40 ounce jute padding.

Die electrically sealed heel pads.

Superior quality that exceeds OEM specifications.

OEM Plus Premium Cut Pile Carpet Colors A 100% nylon loop carpet similar to what is found in most domestic cars since 1974. 800 series cut pile is perfect for late model restoration and fix up. Available in 53 OEM Colors.

OEM Plus Ultra Premium Carpet Colors A 100% nylon cut pile carpet manufactured with over 40% more nylon fiber than our standard OEM Plus series cut pile. Our Ultra Premium carpet will give any car a super plush luxury identity. Ultra Premium carpet is available in 21 late model colors.

So what’s the verdict?

Nice research and post showcasing it. My only experience is with ACC and my two installs have been good. My car is my daily though so I just need something to cover the floor.

Would be interested in that first one from OER. Pretty sure my dad used that brand in his Camaro years ago and it was a perfect match to factory.

The last option sounds like ACC in another box. Color choices are the exact same, even the names.

It definitely sounds like ACC has the market nearly on lock! I’ve come across all sorts of buyers that have used different retailers. Most of them say the box the carpet came in was shipped directly from Anniston, Alabama and has ACC stamped on it. Once the carpet research is complete and my purchase is made, it will be on to high end floor mat options. Then deciding on wether I’m repairing my factory digital odometer that scrambles and coolant temperature gauge that won’t rise OR performing the Z28 gauge cluster retrofit. A single crack in the upper dash pad has developed, but for 15 years it has been having the issue where the glue leaches through or whatever that disgusting residue is. Plus the gap around the factory stereo and black bezel continues to widen. I stumbled across a 1996 LS6 ZO6 swapped Impala SS with 44k miles for $16,999 in Arizona. That may have been less $expensive$ than my DCM refurbish.

Do they offer color options ? I was planning on doing carpet 15 years ago... and life got in the way. Now I'm back at it. I want slightly darker grey than OEM. The light grey can not handle foot traffic without looking filthy...

All of the very few carpet manufacturers for our B-Body cars have a variety of colors. Most have grids with the small squares showing each color sample and it’s corresponding code. They all have disclaimers about judging a color by It’s appearance on varying monitors or screens. To be certain they recommend you order a few samples from them before you choose a color. Typically that’s free as well.

I used the ACC essex in medium gray. Darker than the original by a couple shades but still looks fine with the door panel and console carpet. The photo/lighting makes it look quite a bit darker than the console carpet but in person it is virtually unnoticeable.

Car Motorsports does not sell carpets.
ACC is sending me samples...
Check rockauto too... I got the essex with mass backing. I did get the carpet about 5 years ago though and also got the heel pad which I don't see as available on rockauto though. You can also get a 5% discount using the widely available codes.

Please re-read my question. I'm not looking for carpet, I'm looking for floor mats.

"Who sells the closest color match floor mats to the OEM light gray? Can anyone provide pictures of the gray mats installed against the OEM gray carpet so I can see how well it matches? Thank you."

Ahh sorry, they still sell the floor mats too, I can't see the grey matching in their product listing but I'm 99% sure they sell the matching colored floormats.

I'd definitely reach out to them as they've been in the game for a long time.
