Well it didn't go as bad as I thought. One thing I'd like to mention. The second bolt from the front on the passenger side has a nut on it. I removed the nut and didn't realize there was a bolt under it until I couldn't break the manifold lose with a 5 foot jack handle lol. I also broke 3 of those brittle plastic vacuum lines. I broke the one going to the fuel pressure regulator, the one going to the HVAC coming out of the wiring harness, and one on the drivers side. They were so brittle I was afraid to disconnect them, and I thought I could be careful enough to remove the manifold without breaking any but I was wrong.

So if any newbies out there are tackling this make sure to disconnect those lines before pulling the manifold. On a happy note Auto zone DOES stock some perfect sized vacuum line to fix. Their line slides right onto the broken line and holds pretty tight. Surprisingly so. This is only the third intake I have replaced so it's not as hard as some may think. This is my first one on an LT1.

I'm not finished yet though. I just took it off today. Plan on cleaning the gasket material tomorrow morning and having the new one on there by football time tomorrow. I'm gonna scrape it first, then hit it with some gasket remover, then hit it with a wire wheel in my cordless drill then lastly hit it with some engine degreaser. I bought some studs from Autozone as well to help when I drop the intake back on there.

Got er done around 5. Didn't run into any mishaps. Just took my time and had a second set of eyes looking over my shoulder in case I missed something. I just dropped the fuel rail (With injectors attached) into the manifold and torqued it to 35 foot pounds. I also replaced the O rings on the injectors. I fixed my broken vacuum line using Armor Mark 7/64" vacuum tube, AutoZone part number 50209. I also have a 95 FWB so if I had a question where something went I just looked at that. I used the Permatex Ultra Grey to seal the intake manifold.

I'm gonna crank her up tomorrow when I get off work to give her time to cure properly. And it looks like someone replaced the intake manifold before. It had FelPro gaskets on it when I pulled the old one. I think imma wrap some heat tape around the EGR tube that's connected to the intake when I get a chance. Maybe all that heat is messing with the RTV there and that is why the intake always fails right there.

Have Some Pics With That

Good intel there jpaul- for anyone tackling this normal maintenance item. The oem gasket goop shrinks with age making a common source of leaker.

Good approach you have to let the sealant cure completely before firing up. And, if the factory material on your china walls looked any different than the pics then indeed someone had been in there before.

This was the condition of my '95 after about a decade.

All,

Checked the Intake Manifold bolts today and they ALL were still at 35 ft lbs. Just hit 975 miles since I put it on. No more problemos except the damn 3-4 shift got weak. Put a bottle of
in there 65 miles ago and stopped driving er so hard and the 3-4 shift tightened up too.
