Hi...I am new..just bought a 96 Caprice Wagon. Particularly happy to hear there were only 485 built. My question is is there a post or a source someone could point me to that lists the RPO numbers and what they are? I am going to a GM dealer tomorrow and see if they can generate the info for me. My concern is that the data may not still me in the computer. Thanks, Ted

Since you got a 96, find VIN Guy and he can run a GM listing for you. He told me recently that 95's getting wipped out of listing, as it have a 10 years limit.

Thanks to you all. A Chev dealer still had it in his computer so got it all. Almost wish I hadn't..come to find out it has a 2:56 axle, non-posi to boot. Anyone going to Bonneville and would like to trade? Yuk, yuk. Ted

Your dealer could have done that, too. He should click on "Vehicle Build" when running the VIS. That's all I can do.

A lot of them (most?) came with that ratio (mine included). CAFE standards & all. Zero to thirty won't even spill your coffee.
I would suggest that you change the rear end cover gasket ASAP, to save your axles. Type 'fel-pro' & 'gasket' in the drivetrain search to see why. - Jim

Thanks for the vin breakdown...will change that gasket. Bought syntetic rear end oil today so must have been a step ahead of you. Ted

Obviously 1G1BL52W7TR179631 is a 4.3L L99 Caprice sedan.
Plugging
1G1BL52W7TR179631
into
tis2web.service.gm.com
, following the prompts, and clicking on the TSB, shows a 2.93 axle.
